Wait a second… they were CHARGING for this? As much as I do enjoy behind-the-scenes featurettes and storyboards, it's just free PR that should be included in a 'making of,' or hosted on their site for fans.

    • Nothing is really free these days. You do have to consider that they spent money making the app.
In any case it's great that it is FREE now (for 24 hours)! :)

It takes money to make commentaries and shoot interviews for DVD special features. Doesn't mean you have to nickel and dime fans, especially when your product isn't exactly cheap in the first place.

  • Can someone tell me how TF became Xbox exclusive? I know MS paid them money for it, but how did that deal come about? Did they pitch it to Sony and Sony declined, or did MS approach EA before they could even talk to Sony? Or did both offer money and EA chose MS? Did MS offer more than Sony? Did EA think going MS exclusive was a better deal for them than going Sony exclusive? Did EA bet on Xbox 1 winning the console war? Did the deal get made before MS announced all the DRM stuff, forced Kinect, and $500 price tag? Do they regret it now?

    • I think Microsoft made a deal with them because the game servers on both XBOX1 and PC are all hosted on Microsofts Azure Cloud service which means you will never have to worry about underspecced hardware or poor service providers or worse yet, peer2peer connections while playing. Best of all the server availability scales based on demand so they aren't paying out extra money for services which are sitting dormant.

      • Something tells me the cloud service is overrated. At least for this game. It's used to process grunt AI which are thick as shit anyway, and to provide dedicated servers, something that isn't new to gaming, especially on PCs. Azure is not doing any graphics processing.

TF2 will be on Sony platforms, which calls into further question the necessity of Azure.

    • A ton of cash was exchanged for sure. Probably at the time when the contract was signed, EA were hedging bets that Xbox1 would succeed to sell more PS4. That's obviously not the case as you can see. Also, MS would have paid a huge amount of money to fund the development of the game, thereby, reducing EA's financial risk on publishing a new game, especially considering that EA does not own the IP of the game but only publishing rights.

      • Do you think Sony was ever in the conversation? Twitter post from Vince Zampella showed he was surprised and disappointed that the game wasn't releasing on PS. He clearly wanted it on that system but EA made the deal apparently without his knowledge or approval. It was news to him when it was announced as Xbox exclusive. This tells me Respawn wanted the game on all platforms all along and planned for it, and that only changed when MS struck a deal with EA which Respawn had no control over.
