Coles - Paying the Tax on Feminine Hygiene products - 10% discount

50

While 10% off may not be a big deal, I think it is the sentiment of this deal that is hitting home with a lot of people. From the PDF:

At Coles, we're taking the GST of feminine hygiene products because we don't think you should be taxed for being a woman. Well, we can't actually remove the GST but we can take 10% off the price of all these items, which is what we've done!"

It is also featured on the back page of this weeks catalogue - I can't see an expiry date here though.

I might have to refer this to the Australian Human Rights Commission…
Why should we have to pay full price for Male Hygiene products !!!

    • haha, good one…

    • fully agree

    • Somebody asked Coles that on Twitter yesterday, and they replied with Gillette Mach 3 shaver kit 1/2 price

    • Why should we have to pay full price for Male Hygiene products !!!

Go for it!!! I fully support you :)

  • You wear male pads?

  • Its funny, 10% off is more than the GST on these products. I wonder if its 10% or the 9.1% GST discount (yes, i know it said 10% off in the add, still querious)

  • Interesting tactic to target women… (does it imply that's it's ok to be taxed to be a man?). Sets an interesting if unfair precedent eg.

Why should people with (insert problem/attribute) have to pay GST on (insert corresponding product)?

ie, incontinence pads, headache tablets, hair regrowth products, false teeth products, gluten allergies, etc

They should have just sold the relevant products cheaper if they wanted without the righteous (and unfair) marketing commentary…

  • So sexist it's not funny.
