I was looking for baby monitor and ear thermometer as for my first baby on Aussie stores, but happened to hit the Braun ear thermometer page on amazon.com. Chemist Warehouse is selling lower end model 4020 for $89.99. The Angelcare Movement and Sound Monitor Deluxe Plus is an old model, may get discontinued soon, but cheapest in Aus is $225+shipping. Just noticed the nearest baby shop to my home, baby bunting sells it for $359! Expedited shipping cost me USD$40. Purchased them with 28 degrees card and got charged AU$252.58, incl. shipping.

Note: I notice the Braun thermometer can change temperature display to celsius, but am not sure about Anglecare baby monitor.

I have a friend who bought the same model Angelcare monitor from the States - it cannot be changed to display celcius.

  • We bought the same Braun thermometer from Amazon five years ago. It's very solidly built — have dropped it a number of times and it still works like a charm and looks new. The only thing to remember is that the earpiece covers (filters?) are more expensive here so whenever we order something from Amazon we add that in as well.

Edited to add: And don't forget that these types of thermometers are not accurate for newborns (ears too small) so you may want to get another backup thermometer (those stick-type digital ones that come in baby first aid kits are good enough) for those early months.

  • I have a $3 one from dx and it does the job fine, only complaint is it takes button cell cr2032 rather than SA OR AAA
