Does anyone have any tips on the best route to travel to Russia? Obviously it's impossible to do a direct flight, I was wondering if anyone has experience on how to plan the route.
Which country to stop over in? I've looked into dubai and parts of asia but was hoping for some input.

Have you got a link for one of those el cheap flights? It sounds like a 50% saving comparing to emirates, but i'm sure that it's really possible to fly there for 500$:(

deal is not that good actually as 500$ is one way only, it's good if you are actually going to Sweden
Going to Moscow is the best via Dubai with Emirates or via Singapore with Singapore airlines both are great. This should apply for some other western cities in Russia as well.
Many ways to go. Via Dubai, via Helsinki, via Tokyo, via HK, via London, via Singapore, via Bangkok.
You need to look at these options & decide which is more suited to your requirements.eg connections etc.
Apart from the major airlines, another to consider is S7.
I'm assuming you're going to Moscow ?
Via Dubai is probably most common route
Thanks for the info. As you can imagine, flight duration and total cost are the two deciding factors.
Moscow is where I would like to go. I've explored some options which can be multiple legs but have a total flight times of close to 30 hours which is quite a lot.
I will look into singapore and emirates and see how they work out
Just avoid driving, check youtube and car crash, they are some really crazy drivers there…..
Vietnam Airlines usually has pretty cheap fares to Moscow.
I went to Vladivostock via japan. back then you had to fly from Nagoya in an old propeller driven Aeroflot Tupelov plane. now you can take a jet from Narita.
why not go for that el cheapo flight to Sweden for less the $500 and then travel work out the rest once you get there. :)
