Just a note that the $100 cashback is from Olympus Australia and can be obtained if you buy from any Australian retailer.

This is a really great camera. You don't get any chroma noise until you get to above iso6400. Basically it has the om-d EM-5 sensor in a pen sized body for bugger nothing. AF is quick and accurate and it also has in body stabilisation, which is great if you have legacy lenses you want to use. 8fps burst is pretty cool too. I bought mine body only from teds for $330 last year and don't regret it, if you want a cheap, fantastic camera that just keeps wanting you to take pictures, get this camera, especailly at this price.

    • I bought with 14-42mm IIR Single Lens Kit 6 months back for $520 from Myer .
@tomascivinod - do you suggest any other lens with this camera? It does not zoom much, or may be i do not know how to use it.

$330 was a great price from Teds (before the cashback).
They're freaking expensive now at $379($479). Bastards probably put it up with the cashback.

  • I currently have a E-PM1 as a secondary camera to accompany my DSLR (when I don't feel like lugging it around). Is it worth upgrading to a E-PM2 just for the improved sensor?

For $229 it's pretty cheap. Very much so if you don't already have the included 14-42 lens.

and here is a (good) rant from someone else: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/50743583

      • Thanks! Seems like a fairly significant jump in specs. Might grab one. Any other colours besides red though?

        • I couldn't find any, next cheapest was TGG above. you might try calling digiDIRECT. Haven't used them personally, but their reputation is ok.

        • Hmmm, extra $44 for preferred colour…decisions :/

        • extra $44 BEFORE you try and get them to price match and haggle like crazy!
Having said that, I'd also give digiDIRECT a good shake down if I was going to buy it from them too.

        • Except video FPS judging from the snapsort link above. EPM1 does 60FSP whereas EPM2 only goes to 30FSP.

        • my bad, digidirect sites says both does 60fps

  • I bought a E-PM1 not long ago, from all the hype I thought it would produce similar pics as the base model Cannon SLR but it doesn't. Clarity is barely any better than very basic pocket cameras.

    • This is the E-PM2. Apparently the sensor is a lot better.

    • I'd say it depends a lot on the lens too. But then again, you were probably comparing the two with kit lenses on both? I bought a E-P2 a couple of years back and with a Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 lens I've been so happy with the results that I actually sold my Canon 550D. Of course, it's not as fast focusing, doesn't have a viewfinder, doesn't track focus anywhere near as good and can't get as shallow depth of field as the Canon, but the fact that it's so much smaller and easier to carry with me, the great sharpness of the lens and the beautiful jpeg image quality and colours straight out of camera were enough to win me over. But certainly depends a lot on what sort of photos and situations you are using it for as to which set of features is more important to you. And if anything E-PM1 should be a bit better and faster focusing that E-P2. And as said before, the E-PM2 again has a whole new generation sensor and image quality should be about the same as with the highly regarded E-M5.

I got TGG to price match although they said they shouldnt have due to colour not being same. Still worth trying. Extra $50 AMEX credit too! This would still be eligible for a TRS credit as invoice is over 300 bucks.

    • Good work! That takes it down to about $150!

      • Thanks, unfortunately Im not heading overseas so no TRS claim for me.

    • Which TGG store? Can you please attach the invoice? Thanks.

    • Which TGG Store? I've checked Artarmon and Chatswood, but no stock..
      Thanks

      • The camera is now out of stock at digiDIRECT. I suspect you've got no chance of getting them to match it now.

Which company is TGG? Would you mind posting the link to do so?

    • TGG = The Good Guys

  • Could you upload the invoice

    • No just because I need to upload to Olympus to get my cashback.

  • I got confused…
After claiming, Olympus says "In order to be eligible for this promotion you need to have paid for in full for your Olympus eligible products during the promotion period for your entry to be valid.". Bough me a lens with matching-price from Teds. I wonder whether am I eligible for claiming? "Paid in full" doesn't mention in Terms and Conditions of the promotion. Wait and see.

I'd assume that means you can't have just paid a deposit or layby. Presumably you've paid for the lens in full. This would be to stop people putting a deposit down, claiming cashback and then not going through with the purchase. i.e. making a profit.

A slightly related note that it's illegal for Olympus to fix the retail price you have to pay through a 3rd party.

  • Can anyone upload an invoice so that we can get price check?

    • like shreddo said, NO!

Here's a JB's HiFi price match invoice from yesterday, in case it helps anyone.

    • thank you for the invoice. matched 329 at jbhifi. using amex claimed $25 westfield gift card. net amount was $310. not as good as digidirect $296. but happy.

      • Thanks for reporting back, glad it helped :)
