Logitech Harmony 650 Remote Upgraded to 8 Devices - FREE

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Harmony 650 has been upgraded to allow 8 devices.

This remote has been posted on Ozbargain many times, but figured people may still be using the old school Logitech Harmony Software or haven't logged into their MyHarmony website lately. If you are using the old school Logitech Harmony Software, you may need to upgrade to MyHarmony (requires a full reprogram of your remote) in order to take advantage of the 8 devices.

I know there is a work around to get more remotes onto your harmony, by leveraging another device, and programming in the commands manually, e.g. combine 2 or 3 remotes into 1 device. However this is time consuming and troublesome.

Store packaging still says 5 devices, but the MyHarmony software will allow you to use 8 devices, it is also changed on Logitech's site, so I'm sure this is official.

Feel free to move this into forum, if this is not a deal.

  • So how do you get this remote for free ???

    • so are you asking us for something that's illegal???

Or just use your IR enabled phone nowadays along with a $4 app.

    • That excludes iPhones…

Anyway, this is apparently a free remote, so it's cheaper than $4

    • yeah, not really for the 'power user'. The IR booster on your phone is sometimes not powerful enough. Add that to the cumbersome software (where activities and many devices are concerned) and it's not really worth saving the cash. Talking from experience as I tried exactly this with my Samsung Note 8.0 last week. The software is not nearly as user friendly as the logitech experience.

Having said that, if all you want to do is control a Samsung TV and PVR or something, I'm sure it would be ok.

The software I tried was the crap that comes from Samsung and also "Smart IR Remote". I was not prepared to pay Logitech $50 for their android software. Retards - same software, no remote, cost you more than their entry level remotes!

  • Why would you even consider this a deal in the first place? And also misleading title.

    • Free firmware!

When did you last pay for firmware ?

        • jv, always quick on the up-take.

I've got this remote and it's interesting news, but this should be a forum post not a bargain.

  • Thanks for the heads-up OP! :)

mine didn't last long at all. 2 months and I'm off to office works with a unit emitting a high pitch noise and a super slow responsive key.

    • +1

strange. So the neg is for having returned a faulty unit? Which I got a refund coz my local OW didn't have stock at the time.

I still have my "old 650" unit that works fine (dropped, cracked, stepped on,, etc). I bought a newer model which only lasted me for two months (faulty)….

And if some out there haven't noticed the older units seemed to be more robust than the newer model. The older units have Buttons that do not make that Clicking noise (which I bought direct from Logitech). The new ones have buttons that clicked which I liked over the old ones.

  • The 650 is a POS. countless problems with remote reseting and battery issues. Google it.

I dunno, I haven't had any issues with mine.
I've dropped mine plenty of times, and still works perfectly.

I wonder if they have raised the remote limit on 600 also.
I used the Harmony 600 for around 3 yrs no issues at all.

I guess this post is mostly for the people who haven't had a issue with their remote, I'm sure there is HEAPS of those people who find this remote working fine.

There is always a dud somewhere, every production line has duds. Nothing is perfect, and nothing will be perfect.

Most problems ive found have been fixed by the troubleshooting. (the remote doesn't like older batteries)

Good deal around the $20-$30 mark, but not for the $80 RRP.

      • I've had heaps of success using Eneloops.
The batteries last around 6months before needing to recharge.

  • Thanks OP - appreciate the post.

    • Just upgraded MyHarmony software and updated the Harmony 650. It has been in the junk draw for a while because I couldn't get it working properly. Now has ID on all devices and can install up to 8 devices. Now to hunt for those model numbers on other devices so I can dump their remote controls.

      Thanks heaps OP.
