Im not too well versed in part-pricing nowadays, but i have a feeling that building this identical system yourself will come out far cheaper

    • I don't think so. I built a very much identical pc for $390 (parts purchased from MSY), not include the OS + monitor. This is a decent deal. If I haven't built my system recently, I would definitely go for this one.

      • agree. I just did a roughy using itestate.com.au and got to around $600. could do better using staticice but that doesn't factor in postage or driving around to pick it up. I think that given this is branded and available locally then it is a very good deal.

    • to build it yourself:

      • Intel Dual Core E5200 2.5 Ghz CPU - 89
      • 2GB RAM - 30 bux
      • 320GB HDD - 61
      • DVD supermulti - 35
      • Vista Home premium 139
      • Monitor : 20 compaq/HP brand - 200
      • keyboard and mouse -20

      other parts required not listed:

      • case - 50
      • motherboard 50

      total approx 674.

  • very good value I reckon, building one with similar spec will costs aleast $600 with Vista

  • Does this qualifies for FREE Windows7 upgrade?

    • Someone needs to confirm the model number before we'll know for sure.

The models eligible for the upgrade are listed here: http://h20426.www2.hp.com/program/windows7/upgrade/ap/en/eli…

    • I did buy a system they offered me instead.
they told me about the error.
and made me another offer which seemed good.
      same specs.
      different brand.
      that was their mistake.
they said they would have to pull the ad off.
the win7 upgrade costs $25 for oz.

  • could not find moneyback with this
    or buy online.
    will go and get one!
though I don't quite need it yet!
    thank you

    • Let us know if you find one!

      • got a better deal I think
        it was a pricing mistake.

  • Wow that is actually a very good deal, and would make a great general-purpose computer (then just add a more decent video card and it'd play games, too). Have to resist temptation!

  • I just spoke to a store and it's the CQ2100AN that they are selling for this price (although they didn't have any in stock). Looks like it's a pricing mistake on the website.

  • Just been to JBHiFi Myer Centre at Adelaide CBD.
    The ad is a misprint.
for that price they have a rediculous PC with an atom processor with 1GB RAM.
Who would need it if you can get a netbook with the same spec for US$300 (which ~AU$450 including overheads).
    ps i voted positive.

  • BEWARE :I just went and purchased it and opened the box: the model you get is Compaq CQ2100AN selling for RRP $600AU at HP's site http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/au/en/ho/WF06b/12454-12454-38… - It is clearly misleading advertising when you get an Atom with 1GB RAM and 160 GB HD. It is both on their print catalogue and website. Where do I go to lodge a complaint and what usually happens to retailers who place misleading advertisements?

    • Why not print out the ads & bring the pc back to JbHifi. I think they have to take it back. It is their mistake, not yours. I hope you still keep the box & packaging stuff though.

If it was sold to you as E5200 with 2Gb RAM and 320GB HDD then it was clearly misrepresented and you are entitled to a refund. If there was a sign in the shop when you bought it which said Atom with 1GB RAM and 160GB HDD or someone at the shop told you that information then you are probably at the mercy of the shop.

Go to your Consumer Affairs dept (or whatever the equivalent in your state is) for advice or to complain. I don't know if they would follow-up on your complaint if it was just a printing mistake. If it was a deliberate attempt to mislead then hopefully they would follow-up.

    • Should be a simple return.. Clearly they have erred..

    • Find it hard to identify with this poster's story. What kind of buyer hands over $600 then leaves the store without even checking the model number on the box?

      • +1

Unfortunately, even if I saw the model number on the box I wouldn't have known the actual specs ( I don't have mobile internet handy) - instead I asked the JB Hi-Fi shop assistant to confirm the advertised specs in store and he took out the catalogue and pointed to it and said that was it. I think JB Hi-Fi should at least publish the model numbers when they advertise these specials - its like only an extra 20 characters, it seems like a ploy to be not transparent.
If people still think this is a bargain (Compaq CQ2100AN) you do get $14 off HP's RRP insert sarcasm
I did keep all the boxes/wrapping and a bit of spit in disgust and will be taking back to the store with the expectation of a full refund, along with my lodgement of an official complaint to the ACCC - thanks for all your advice guys - someone needs to keep these retailers honest.

  • Contacted local JB Hi-Fi. Price and specifications are a misprint.

  • +6

This is becoming more common amongst retailers and it is really pissing me off. Just a ploy to lure customers in the store. Then the "Oh yeah that's a misprint but you can still buy this other inferior piece of crap for the same price…"

  • +1

misprint. Nicely spotted deal though, but alas too good to be true.

  • +1

    Misprint.

  • +1

Interesting to see how long does it take JB Hi-Fi to actually rectify thee pricing/specification on their website.

    • +1

Yea, I mean I feel like if it's still on their website at that price they should have to honour it - but I'm just one humble voice…

  • +2

    misprint

  • +3

JB Hi-Fi suck! "Misprint" yeah right! Their stores are a mess just like their catalog layouts.

  • Their 'catalog layouts' are why they are so popular - Dick Smith usually beat them in price in everything.

    • you can't be serious, the yellow absolutely r@pes your eyes.

  • Does anyone know what the correct price of this item is - could still be a reasonable bargain if its not that much dearer ?

  • +1

Good luck getting a refund out of these screwballs. I once bought a headunit off them, flat out refused to refund my money, even when it wasn't playing cd's out of the box, tried every trick in the book to get off paying me.

  • someone take this down, its misleading, I was almost going to run to JB Hifi.

    • Same here.

  • +1

Time for some gawd-darn ACCC Hadouken!
    http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/815334

    • they can't really help you.
go to fair trading dept in nsw or other states.
      you should have a case.

  • boo jb hifi.

only reason to go there is for nice game trade ins, and marked down DVD's.

  • Take a look at their catalogue ……… not a SINGLE model number on ANY item in it. "Bait advertising" is illegal in SA, and no doubt in other states.

  • I see that they have already changed the image on their website

    It is now

    • Intel Atom 1.6Ghz
    • 1GB DDR2 RAM
    • 160GB HDD
    • DVD SuperMulti Drive
    • 20" Monitor
    • Windows XP

Very different from what it was…

  • I actually went to liverpool and examined the goods.
they have it sealed in a box so you can't see it.
    i pointed out the discrepancy.
went to dick smith next door.
my lady friend in tow was quite annoyed with all this toing and froing.
the lady there had checked with head office, told me it was a misprint and apologised.
    these things happen.
anyone who bought this is not a dodo.
the boxes are sealed. so you don't inspect the goods.
    will shop there again.
    thanks for the tip.
pity it did not work out.
but you should get a refund at least.

  • I actually got an offer from them which was very kind.
they gave me another package which blew my mind.
an acer no less with 2 gig of RAM
V203 monitor Oh was it grand!
I went back again to price it you see
it was at $979, tee hee!
for once in my life I have got a deal
sometimes there is a God, as this is real.
