Watch_Dogs, Wolfenstein, The Last of Us Remastered. $64.98ea - Dick Smith (Preorder)

700

Figured for those interested in the few big games coming out soon, if you pre-order at Dick Smith (In-store) you save $10 and pay only $64.98 rather than $74.98.

Watch_Dogs PS4/XB1
OzGameShop: $66.99 JBHIFI: $89 EBGAMES $99.95 BIGW: $88

Wolfenstein: The New Order PS4 XB1
OzGameShop: $65.99 JB: $89 EB: ? BIGW: $88

The Last of Us: Remastered PS4
OzGameShop: $82.99 JB: $98 EB: $99.95

So if you pre-order it'll be cheaper than OZ Game Shop, which is usually the cheapest but you have to wait a couple of weeks for shipping. And this is only $5 more than the US RRP price.

The catalogue starts the 13th of May, but you should be able to preorder earlier.

  • Was about to jump out of my seat but realised I've already pre-ordered from EB so there's no way I'll be able to pricematch it for $65 although pricematching them for $75 is still somewhat acceptable

    • +7

Just cancel your preorder… you don't lose any money (if it's worth the effort to save $10).

      • I've already got $88 of floating credit at EB, not worth the effort although I always like to try and get stuff at the cheapest price

        • That's the same problem i have, $89 credit dropped already on watchdogs. I keep moving it to different games cause i see them heaps cheaper online.

        • +3

EB usually understands. When I preordered GTAV, I explained the Dick Smith $10 preorder deal to my local EB and they said they couldn't price match (as the promotional price was not the shelf price). They happily cancelled my preorder and completely understood why (EB price $109.95, Dick Smith preorder price $64.95). They were disinterested in matching the preorder price due to the low/non-existant profit margin.

    • -4

why would you not be able to price match?
unless EB are offering a different version of the game you will be able to price match on release day.
(better to keep your preorder and support EB as they need the business more than other stores, plus there's the bonus member points and the generous refund period)

      • I can pricematch, just not the extra $10 I could save if I got it from DSE which is strictly limited to their pre-order offer

      • It's got to be in stock usually at Dick smith to price match. And my dick smith only got 3 copies of infamous when it came out and they were all allocated to pre orders. So eb wouldn't price match. I'd rather give dick smith my business if eb make it hard to get a good price.

support EB as they need the business more than other stores

        dafuq?

        • -5

other stores make money from things that aren't games. EB rely on the sale of games or they'll go under.

        • +11

Hope they do go under. All they do is rip off clueless mums and dads and stupid people who "support" them.

        • -1

I hope they don't, if they do then JB would probably stop accepting trades and then we'd have to try and sell all our crap the hard way

        • I hope they do, and they will. EB are scum. They are the biggest crooks around.

Anyone who supports them is a moron.

    • +1

Just to let you and everyone on here. They cant refuse a price match no matter how cheap it is. If it's in the same area and a valid price. They have no choice.

I do my shopping at rockdale EB games and about 2months ago or so When Infamous second son was released. they had it at Dicksmiths for $65 so i tried EB they said the lowest they would go was $80" So i said to the manager, " I thought you price match?" "No he said and thats lowest they will go" So i was like screw this im going to get it at their price. It happened before. i was really annoyed, because EB used to be the place to shop and they never refused any price matching.

So i went home kind of angry,Just so happens week before the release of Infamous SS, I won a free game from EB games Australia on twitter. For posting a picture of my White Xbox One and PS4 custom skins. So they sent me a free game.

So i went home after i was angry after they refused me,thought to my self, This ain't right? So i thought i would post a message on Twitter and see what they have to say. Within seconds of posting on EB games australian Twitter account.
I got a reply asking all the details. They where sorry this happened. and they would resolve it. The next day I got a message saying, they had called EB games rockdale spoke who ever was in charge. They said they will honor any price matches you have no matter how cheap. Any more trouble to message them right away!

So i went to EB games a couple days later, Target was having a crazy sale. i bought 3 items with big savings. and without fail they excepted my price matched items, by the very person who refused me. haha He didn't look happy, but he did it.
id say message EB games twitter account tell them what happened, they will call the store and fix them up ;)

      • The problem is that $65 isn't the sale price. Dick Smith will be officially selling these games at $75 on release date. They have a preorder deal where you get $10 off if you preorder. EB Games will only price match games in stock, not preorders. Though EB should price match $75 on release day.

Their price matching system is pretty good. The horrible part about it is the "at the discretion of the store manager's" part… which means that it could be in the same shopping centre, and the manager still say no… or that you live in a regional area (where stores are spread apart) and the meaning of 'short distance' is complicated.

The definition of 'reasonable distance' has no official meaning, and the EB Facebook team have said on a few occasions that within a '30 minute drive' is reasonable. Though my local store refuse to price match outside the same shopping centre, let alone within a 30 minute drive :)

Sorry to hear about your experience… if you're buying that much stuff off your local store, then they should price match just to keep your loyalty.

Worth noting that the Ozgameshop version of Watch Dogs you're referring to is a U.S. import carrying the disclaimer "Please note: this is the NTSC version of the game which is compatible with PAL systems. Any future DLC may require a US PSN account" the UK and possibly more DLC friendly version is $77.99 on OGS making this deal all the better.

That awkward moment when someone sees you have a tab called dick.jpg

    • +6

The even more awkward moment when that tab is not from ozbargain.com

Just curious why Dick has not placed the Xbox One case version behind Watch Dogs? It's behind Wolfenstein and I understand the Last of Us obviously. Anyone able to confirm X1 Watch Dogs is covered? Price matching wouldn't work with the catalogue since it's not showing?…. Wait just had a look at the codes underneath, 2 under Watch Dogs.. Wonder if this will suffice a price match at EB.. Has anyone been able to price match at pre order price?

  • How do you pricematch at EBgames for pre-ordered games?

    • +1

You can't really. The $10 off preorder promotion is not part of EB's price matching rules. EB go off the competitor's shelf price when the game goes on sale… which must also be in stock.

I've price matched preorders in the past with EB but I'm usually served by a different employee when I go to pickup the game, which usually results in…

"You have $30 remaining to pay on the game."
      "I price matched."

Then it's up to the employee's discretion whether or not to call that store to confirm price/availability.

  • nice file name

  • I WANT THAT PLANTRONICS RIG! FOR MY PS4/PC!!! >< GREAT SHARE OP

    • What Plantronics rig?

      • a stereo headset where u can mix music and gameplay, theres a mixer that controls how loud each of the sound u want hear

  • Do pre-orders at DSE require full payment upfront?

    • +3

Nah.. just put $10 and you are good to go

  • Creatures!!

  • Heads Up too, Dick had same deal for Infamous Second Son and when it released they brought RPP to $64.95 so if you had pre-ordered it only came to $54.95 (amazing 4 new gen, new release)…can't say whether they'll do the same here but either way best local deal around!

  • nice to see dicks is upto date with the classification for watch dogs.

great prices for nextgen games though. will be biting at those prices.
    assuming this is instore only?

  • +1

Last time I pre-ordered something from dick smith, they didn't have it ready for pickup after the release. I preordered more than a week in advance and was simply told to wait for stock to come. What's the point of preorders then ? Cancelled and got it off Jb. Keep this in mind when you preorder from dick smith.

    • Had the same experience… Was not impressed.

  • Isnt the last of us not coming out until December 31st? Not even worth pre ordering now.

    • December 31st is a placeholder date. Dates like this usually mean that the retailer does not know when the game is expected to be released. The release date might get announced at E3 in June.

The game should be released well before December. By the sounds of it, the remastered version is finished (development wise)… if not very nearly finished.

      • Hmm interesting, at this stage would be the only game tempting me to get a ps4.

      • According to this site it may be released as late as January 2015.

I remember when GAME advertised the launch of Max Payne 3 and accepted pre-orders 18 months before its launch.. Pretty sure they actually went under by the time it launched actually!

        • The information in the article is speculative. A developer would be crazy to release a video game a week after Christmas.

All the DLC and patches are now done. Naughty Dog said that The Last of Us was developed using higher resolutions, which had to be reduced for the PS3 disc/hardware. This made their decision to do a remastered version easier as the PS4 could handle the original higher resolutions (i.e. less work for them).

I'm still confident this game will come out in the peak season September-November… but this is also speculative :)

  • Hi is there any pre-order discount on the PC version of Wolfenstein The New Order in Dick Smith ? Does any one know ?

    • Seems they're not stocking it.

  • +1

    Marshall pls.

  • def want to pick up at least one of those games…good price for local stock.

  • Dicksmiths guy didnt know about this deal for Watch Dogs on XB1

Basically, he said i can pre-order and then sort out the $10 discount and price when i go to pick it up. I think the price he had in the system was $80 or so, not $75.

    • +2

      What a Dick.

    • Mine didn't know about it either. Just take a copy of the catalogue in when you go to pick up the game and they should do it for the $65 (providing they get stock..)

Dick Smith has Minecraft for PS3 for $19.95 preorder for release tomorrow (14/05/14). So if I go into the store and preorder it (put down a deposit of $10), will they have to refund me $0.05 when I pick it up tomorrow?

    • No, $10 deal only on select preorders.

  • anyone know how to go about preordering online? price is $75

    • Enter the code 'budget' at checkout.

      • That's 12% ($9) off not the $10 for pre-ordering which is only in-store? Close enough anyway and saves going to a store.

        • Urgh forgot about postage ($4.95) :(

  • The guys in my local DSE had no idea of this deal, had to show them the catalogue.

I am keeping a copy of the catalogue as proof when I pickup my game as the receipt does not mention the $10 off for Pre-Order and even their computer system did not show or mention it.

  • I'm trying to understand. So the final price on pre-order is $54.98?

      1. Standard price for game is $74.98.
      2. If you pre order they give you $10 off so the price ends up being $64.98

$54.98 is what you will need to pay on the day as you will have already paid $10 when you pre ordered it.

      • Ok, cheers. Prior Infamous preorder talk was confusing the matter.

    • +3

Update: picked up Wolfenstein today on my preorder. Only had to pay $49.98, making the grand total $59.98 for the preorder. And I was told Watch Dogs will be the same. Unheard off prices, well done Dick Schmidt.

Not too late for Watch Dogs for those yet to preorder.

      • That's awesome! They've gotta be losing money selling it that cheap!

        • Haha we are finally starting to get US prices for console games! :D
