Has anyone here has not got a fine off speeding/parking etc yet?

i've been driving for 30 years now in melbourne and so far i have received 2 speeding fines in total. first one was 6km over the limit $180 and the second one is 8km over the limit at williams street@ $180. Pretty frustrating as they earn $3 million a day on fines. Those fines are costing me a fortune. hard earned money!!!

i asked my friends and they said to me that getting 2 fines in 30 years is normal. my friends told me they been fined 5 or 6 times now.

so my question is, has anyone here has NOT got fined for speeding or parking etc?

I had one for parking ( went back to work, after a year off, council had changed parking rules on road, I didn't know) been driving for 9 yrs. Never been in a car accident either. I think you have done really well, I know what you mean though.

    • sometimes, you can appeal and wrote a letter to the council explaining your condition.
Explain to them that you didnt know council change the parking rules and that it is your first time in that area, bla bla bla.
its a long process - but sometimes they will waive the penalty if its the first time for you.

  • I've once, but was being a complete idiot.

It's not that hard too not get fined, but it's easy too, as well.

"There are those who have and those who are about to"

  • Fined once years ago. Speeding.

I was doing 58km/h in what I thought was a 60 zone in the city (Cleveland St, Sydney). Very unfamiliar with driving that area - first time I'd driven that route in fact. Being a busy area and not residential, I naively assumed it'd be 60.

    It was a 50 zone.

    So upset :(

  • I have been driving for over 20 years and have never had a fine in Sydney. The two times I went to Melbourne - fined twice.

    • I feel for you. The roads in Melbourne city is so complicated with all the tram lines, hook turns and weird settings. Last time there was a traffic light AFTER turning right , which I almost missed without my friend reminding. After that I followed my GPS and turned into a road where a sign says 'tram only' after the initial 20m length. SO WEIRD

WTH those who got fined more than 10times and they're still allowed to drive ? No way! I mean.. right?

If someone with 30 years driving experience that got fined once every 3 years — that would be 10 times fined, and still have 10 demerit points before license is suspended (assuming in NSW on full license).

  • Lucky you guys don't live in WA. It's pretty much accepted as revenue raising over here. I haven't got one yet but most of my friends have got caught at least once with some multiple times.

  • I got a couple of speeding fines when I was a new driver, then none for 20 years. Then a speed camera booked me on the Pacific Highway when I missed the sign dropping the 100km/h speed down to 50km/h. Ouch.
Luckily, NSW allows you to appeal a speeding fine based on previous good record (over 10yrs without a fine) and they will usually let you off if you are less than 30km/h over.
    Yay.
    Never had a parking fine.

    • 100km/h down to 50km/h?!?!
That's absurd. Where is that deathtrap?

Woodburn, NSW. To be fair, I missed the 50 ahead sign, and was pictured slowing after the 50 zone (79km/h). I wasn't at my best as it was 6am and I had been driving for a couple of hours.

  • I've been driving for 40 years (in SA) with no speeding or parking fines. I don't drive much though :)

  • Isn't the main point of you receiving a speeding or parking fine the fact you were exceeding the stated speed limit
or parked contrary to the law. Here's a better way to save your hard earnt dollars, don't speed!!!

    • … but you must get to that next red light before everyone else… you get a prize ??? :-)

  • 3 fines for me.
    1 for speeding 23 over =\
    1 for a U turn on my Red P's
and 1 for parking in Chinatown Melbourne cause i didn't read the 7 section parking sign clearly.
Learnt my lesson from all and haven't received one since then =]

  • This guy nearly got off a speeding fine.

  • No speeding fines, but I have received numerous parking fines from parking in my workplace's car park. Every time I got fined it was on a quiet day with very few cars there (nearly all employees), so the officers had a field day.

    • Your workplace's car park is a public street?

I got a $300 fine for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. They define it as the back of your car "going up then down". I slowed down to a crawl, enough to see that there are clearly no oncoming cars from either side.

I have never seen any police at that intersection before, which I drive through every day. Coincidentally the cop was being trained by another cop at that time. Wrong place, wrong time!

      • It's part of a private shopping centre which the council had jurisdiction to apply parking restrictions and fines as well. Insane agreement if you ask me. Fining shoppers for parking.

  • Brisbane road rules are worse than Melbourne. got a fine parking on the street next to a hotel, with absolutely no street signs. Apparently it's City 2P. you guys should have different colour roads to distinguish where the city starts and ends. So silly.
