  • What flavours do people recommend?

    • my favorite is sugarfree lemonade but i add half cup/ dose to the bottle.
Thanks OP. I think you should also mention the $16 exchange cylinder in the deal instead of the regular $19

        Thanks GregFiona,

        Just added.

        Have a nice evening

  • Don't use the syrups myself, but the $16 refill offer looks pretty good too. What do people usually pay for the refills?

    • I bought my SodaStream from Harvey Norman and the refills there were advertised at $21.95 so this seems like a good deal!

    • "Ssve $3", therefore, $19. It's the standard price for refills, even at HN.

    Don't buy SodaStream !
It is Manufactured on land stolen from Palestinians.

If you want a cheaper option to the refills you should check out using a homebrew CO2 tank.

For example I pay $20 to refill 6kg of CO2 when the small 40L bottles are around $20 for 330g!

The adapter is down the bottom of this page (I got mine from Brewcraft in WA but there are many other vendors who stock this range)
    http://www.kegking.com.au/gasbottlesandregulators.html

CO2 tank was about $160 (3 years ago so can't be sure on the exact price now) for the initial purchase and as mentioned was $20 to swap over a few weeks ago. I use these guys in Belmont http://www.yellowpages.com.au/wa/belmont/pressure-testing-se….

Alternatively any homebrew shop can sell you a tank but it's typically more expensive than just going to a pressure testing place. Kinda like buying at the wholesale rate.

    • Is the CO2 food grade?

I love my 2.6kg bottle. No longer care about how much CO2 I'm using so my drinks are actually fizzy.

$3.33 a syrup bottle is really cheap though. Cola is the best.

      • There is a lot of misinformation about CO2 grades. But that'd start getting offtopic fairly quickly.

In any case the place I linked was advised it was for use in homebrew beer and a sodastream. Funnily enough the owner mentioned he refills his sodastream canisters himself saying it was actually fairly easy but the newer bottles have a anti-refill check valve.

    • I have seen others that refill with dry ice. "melts" to co2 and refills the container, interesting idea.

Disclaimer: obviously dont do that it you dont know what you are doing. Overfilling would be dangerous.

      • I've looked into it and it didn't look all that cost effective compared to just refilling a big tank. Granted you have the initial cost to buy the large tank but the cost of those small sodastream one are over the top. Not to mention having to drive to the shop to swap them over far more often.

    • Anyone done this in SA? Doesn't appear to be much info online from these shops…

  • i was thinking of getting a sodastream just to make sparkling water at the office - where's the best/cheapest place to pick one up? Harvey Norman is the best i've found for $59

  • With the low cost of unbranded soda under $1 per litre why do people bother anymore?

    • i own a sodastream machine and I don't think it's cheaper than the no frill sodas. The convenience in my case is that i don't have to carry liters of soda and dispose (2)dozens of empty bottles every fortnight plus i can use chilled filtered water straight from the fridge dispenser so I don't waste fridge space for bottles and I don't have to wait for the bottled soda to chill.

      • Works for you, I see your point. For me the convenience of having bottles ready to go in the cupboard is great. I even use the plastic bottles for funnels etc. Horses for courses.
