  • Would love to know if they have this at Docklands, if anyone has been and seen it could they let us know please.

    • -1

Yes, I'd like to know as well.

    • -1

      Same here

  • These were $39.99 YESTERDAY!
    Damn it…

    • +3

      They'll refund the difference.

  • Who here prefers cans to bottles? Personally I prefer bottles. Probably because I prefer my drink to come out of glass rather than a tin can.

    • +1

      Pour into a glass?

      • +2

How do you stop the beer "glugging" into the glass from the can - foaming and having an enormous head?

        • +1

Pierce another hole in the can…. lets air in while liquid goes out the other hole.

        • +2

          Shotgun!

        • Go to a pub and watch the experienced bar staff pour a beer. They start with the glass almost horizontal (with the beer pouring down the inside of the glass) and then as the beer is poured, gradually move it to vertical.

        • +1

Shotgun Wife Beater - sounds like trouble !

    • If you always have beer in the fridge then glass, if not then cans. If you've got the room it's much nicer to drink from a bottle (although I prefer Headmaster glasses myself chilled in the fridge).

Cans chill far quicker and are better if you don't have extra room to store the beer at all times.

      My 2c any who.

      • +1

You can fit 50% more beer into the fridge with tinnies than stubbies, so they get my vote.

Some say cans protect the Amber goodness, hence imports can stay 'truer'… I've certainly noticed the 500 ml stella is superior to bottle, although some imported bottles of stella are uk brewed so it's not a fair comparison to belgian cans.
Ultimately, it's probably screw cap vs cork until some one does a phd on it (like they did in red wine screw caps! )

edit: whoever negged, go talk to: a. Microbrewers on keeping beer for archiving. B. A wine maker - not the guy who does tasting at Dan Murphy - about screw caps. That is, get educated rather than neg with no addition to the conversation

      • Some people just like to neg. I dunno why. Even my question was negged!

On the topic of beer keeping better in cans - It's certainly true that brown or green glass is used in most beers to protect the liquid from UV light - Stella bottles are green for this reason.

+1 for you buddy as you speak the truth

      • I know that imported Becks cans taste much better than imported Becks bottles and I always assumed that this was because cans protect the amber goodness during shipping but I haven't done a phd on it. But I do trust my taste buds!

    • Can technology has come to the point where the beer never touches the tin. There is a protective layer between the tin and the beer.

In the United States (and becoming more common locally) microbrewers are starting to use cans a lot more due to the beer being protected against exposure to light.

  • Does Costco membership work at all stores?

    • +2

Yes its worldwide. I used mine in Washington DC

      • +11

Not really saving money after the return airfares though.

        • Hahaha yeah, I don't recommend traveling there just for the bargains

        • +1

bet tsa looks at you like a freak when you have gallon drums of mayonnaise in your luggage

  • Not at Lidcombe Costco. Membership fee is the same, yet don't get same pricing. It doesn't make sense.

    • Sadly, not all Costco stores have identical products. Even Ringwooed and Docklands - even in the same city, don't stock the same merchandise. It can be very frustrating!

  • Wasn't this price in Canberra on Sunday arvo.

Someone probably imported these, couldn't sell them so Costco might have bought them for next to nothing :(

Got these about a month ago for $29 a slab. Docklands & Ringwood had the same deal. These seem less carbonated than the bottles I get from Dan's, but still OK (just OK). Check the use-by as the last lot expire in July '14.

  • +3

Cans are better on a camp/fishing trip.

  • The taste of these are quite different from the bottled ones brewed in uk. Honestly I prefer the bottle taste but these can ones are quite strong alcohol wise.

  • +2

Costco Dockland is selling them for $25. I bought 5 slabs this morning. They will automatically reduce it to $25 at check out.

  • Thanks OP. Got a slab about 5:30 tonight at Ringwood, still plenty left!

  • i went today at ringwood.. ask if it was $25 still they said it finished. Only had 2 layers of it left

  • We went to Docklands today and they said the special isn't on. Some of the dates were June and some were August. Someone else was there to get some as well. :(

    • god Dame it!
you saved me a trip anyway.
