EB Games "The Biggest Sale Ever"

162

I'm not sure entirely when the sale ends, but will update it once I know.

Although a lot of their prices aren't great (a lot of them are just matching base prices in other stores, with many remaining being of a lower sale price than say JB Hi-Fi's recent 20% off sale), there are some that are worth mentioning…

Game Platform Condition Price
Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure 3DS New $19.00
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask 3DS New $28.00
Project Zero 2: Wii Edition Wii New $19.00
Rayman: Legends Wii U, PS Vita. PS3, X360 New $23.00, $19.00, $19.00, $19.00
Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut Wii U New $19.00
Pokemon X 3DS Preowned $36.00
Pokemon Y 3DS Preowned $36.00
Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy 3DS Preowned $36.00
Wii U GamePad Cradle and Stand Wii U New $9.00
Dragon's Crown PS Vita New $28.00
Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate Wii U Preowned $28.00
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies NDS New $9.00
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of the Reverie NDS New $9.00

If you spot any that I've missed, I'll add them to the list.

Hahahaah EBgames are such a joke. This is supposedly 'The Biggest Sale Ever' yet their prices are only now inline with other retailers. $77 for BF4 or Fifa14? no thanks, its been cheaper elsewhere for the past few months.

    • +2

I know. It doesn't mean ALL their prices are bad (hence why I'm listing the ones that do deserve a mention), although the majority are admittedly, not very good.

    • Don't forget, you can now get MH3U online for $36. Unfortunately you can't get the Wii U bundle online yet.

    • +2

Have to agree. Persona 4 Golden is $19 in store (on sale) but $28 online https://ebgames.com.au/vita-158288-Persona-4-Golden-PS-Vita

      • Where did you get $19 in store? New or preowned?

        • New, in my local store yesterday.

        • Crap in WA here near no stock and preowned is $23 even more expensive than a new one and only 1 Perth metro has it.

        • It is worth $23!!

        • I know it is worth $23 but just couldn't justify why preowned is more expensive than a new one. Will try to see if that only store (45mins drive) still has it in stock next week.

    • Just like every other game sale in history, it doesn't mean all the games are the cheapest.

  • +3

Pretty much every Wii U game on the list can be found cheaper elsewhere.

They also seem to have increased the prices on some of their titles, yet are claiming a 'saving' off the RRP… How dodgy

    • This is pretty standard practice for EB Games. I worked for this company once upon a time and it was a regular occurrence to laugh hysterically about some of their dodgy practices.

      • +1

        Hysterically, or maniacally?

        • When one has no control over a corporations dodgy business practices that pays one's bills, one can do nay more than laugh….

    • Was at EB less than a couple of weeks ago and noticed them trying on 2006's Oblivion amongst the 2 for $60 games.

  • not a new deal but monster hunter 3 ultimate is still $36, probably worth putting in.

and the wii u charging cradle and stand is $9, which is pretty much as cheap as it's going to get new, perfect for everyone who is getting the basic deal and still want them.

    sigh

I remember when EB Games first arrived, they absolutely annihilated the opposition with great prices and knowledgeable staff. They're just a joke now - I cannot recall the last time I bought from them.

Sadly, same goes for JB Hifi. Once great, now meh.

    • Blasphemy! (Nah its ok)
I got my 3DS XL from JB Hifi for $170 after subtracting the value of the games so they have their place, but now every retailer except Big W and Target have decided that they have customer loyalty so its ok to bump up their prices. Sadly it applies to UK imports now too. And before anyone claims that its the exchange rate, the associated change isn't that drastic to raise prices the way they have been.

    • Who needs stores when you have digital distribution??

      • +4

People with crappy satellite internet like me.

        • +8

And people who prefer to go "Here you can borrow this game because I think you'll like it" or "Here is my cupboard of amazing games that I paid full price for! Hahaha I have no money!"

        • +1

Problem is you install the game from a disc that you buy then you have to download 5GB of updates before you can even play the game.

        • Nothing makes me more anxious to play a game than 3 hour wait times.

        • Lol, with our old plan (~ a year and a half ago) 5 GB = 2-3 Weeks waiting.

  • +1

There are a couple of games on my wanted list which are cheapest I've seen. New stock. One 3ds, one ps3.

  • Rayman Legends on PS Vita for $19 new is not bad. Also Dragons Crown for $28 new (and preowned??).

  • dragon crown is pretty cheap

  • Dragons Crown for vita is rumoured to be on ps+ this month

  • Here are some good deals I've found:
XB1 controller $68 I don't think i've seen this go on sale yet other than overseas, a great controller and PC support is apparently coming "very soon"

    Trials fusion deluxe PS4/XB1 $36

    BF4 PC $36

Nintendo 3DS Premium Refurbished Bundle $198
    Includes:
    Premium Refurbished Nintendo 3DS Console
    AC Adapter
New Officially Licensed Nintendo 3DS Carry Case
New Officially Licensed Nintendo 3DS Screen Protector and Cleaning Kit
New Officially Licensed Nintendo 3DS Travel Kit, containing Car Charger and Nintendo Themed Ear Buds
    4GB SDHC Memory Card
^strongly considering picking this up, i've been wanting to get a 3DS XL but most of the bundles so far have been pretty meh.

I think there are also some stuff that aren't listed, I saw the fighter within(XB1) for $28 new, I considered picking it up just because it was so cheap.

    • +1

Fighter within is a terrible game, not even worth $28. Avoid!

    • As much as I like my original 3DS the build quality is terrible. Its been sent back to Nintendo for repairs to the circuit board once a year around mid June since purchase on release day. I'm kind of expecting it to happen again this year. It must be expensive for Nintendo though, each time its sent back its a new model.

Really for an extra $50 you get a BRAND NEW (warranty and better ACL rights included) XL console that has far superior build quality, doesn't leave marks on the screen and is much easier to hold for action games. If you can wait until christmas there will be some better sales on it.

      • Before or after Christmas? I have a 2011 built 3DS without any issue such as marks on screen etc. but yeah $198 refurbished is a rip off.

        • On 17th of December 2013 I got my XL for $170 from JB after subtracting the value of two Professor Layton games ($270 inclusive), Miracle Mask hadn't dropped below $40 by then and Azran Legacy was freshly released. Not that I would've paid $59 for Azran Legacy but that's what JB recorded on the receipt.

I think the only way they can get away with $198 refurb is because the only other colour of the original model they sell is the pink one (for the same price NEW) which they know many consumers wouldn't be happy to purchase.

      • Would you recommend against buying a preowned 3ds XL from EB? I really wan't one but I'm not willing to fork out the whole $250 without getting atleast 1 decent game with it. Feel free to be brutally honest, I'd prefer it that way.

        • I would recommend against it. Getting a brand new one gives you better consumer rights, is far less likely to fail and will have all buttons etc. in tact. With a preowned one you don't know what you're getting until you open the box, which you can't do until you buy it. It may have been dropped, soaked etc. Circuit board issues may give you a small warning if you're lucky but the connectors may dislodge at any point meaning at some point it will turn off immediately without warning and become unusable afterwards, or you might get to turn it on but no picture will be displayed. If EB received a console that had a circuit board error and fixed it to the point that was 'good enough' it could return anywhere within the space of the next month and you've got no access for three-four more weeks while Nintendo is repairing an EB fix.

        • Is that why those used 3DS or XL are so cheap on Gumtree? Some like $199 with 3 Mario/Zelda games

        • Yeah they're likely out of warranty and have circuit board issues. I don't know that the consumer law could help you there either since if you need to return them to the seller then nothing's going to change.

  • +1

I saw donkey Kong returns 3ds preowned for $36 or $37 in store. Not sure if that's worth a mention

  • Trials Fusion Deluxe Edition (includes Season's Pass) for $36 is a great price.

  • Rayman Legends Xbox360 version at $19 seems to be cheap.

  • +1
    • Even 36 new is cheap as chips, but that deal was uploaded a couple days ago.

    • Is it better on Wii U than 3DS? Wanting to expand my Wii U library atm, don't the any games yet atm haha

      • Depends on what your favourite playstyle is, portable or console. Wii U has the more comfortable control style and is cheaper. The 3DS version isn't on sale. Also Wii U can go online by default, 3DS can go online but needs to run through a Wii U wirelessly.

  • Up vote for the effort putting this one up. Although have to agree where do EB get off calling this a sale haha.

  • EB hold their "biggest sale ever" pretty regularly, each one smaller than the last.

    • Probably biggest in the sense that they've got more 'Loot' to sell than ever before and its on sale by about 50c or something ridiculously small.

  • I actually want to scoop up a lot of their cheaper DS and PSP titles (they have a fair few great titles for $4), but I refuse to buy preowned online. I would be incredibly disappointed if my games rocked up in the post with "PREOWNED GAME FROM EB GAMES" cover instead of the actual cover art.

  • My local store had half price on a lot of preowned games on the weekend. Got kill zone shadow fall for $44 lego lotr on vita for $15. Not sure who would normally pay $88 for a preowned kill zone though…

  • Just picked up Monster Hunter up for $36, good deal! Didn't see any other real bargains though at my EB.

  • Got Monster Hunter 3 Wii U preowned for $28 and FIFA South Africa on 360 for the princely sum of $2. Thanks OP.

  • +2

Got Monster Hunter Wii U for $36, Kirby Adventure Wii preowned for $29 and Dragons Crown PS3 for $23.
Then in store I got WWE 2K14 Xbox 360 for $36, (was waiting for cheaper price but only got it for the Daniel Bryan cover) and I was lucky due to an error I got South Park Stick of Truth for Xbox 360 Preowned for $19.

    • Wow nice price on South Park. Great game.

      • Yeah, the person at checkout said someone put the wrong stickers on it. First it was scanning as a new game then it was not going at the $19 price, so I don't think this will be the same price at other EB Game shops. To think I only went in there to cancel a note to call me if Monster Hunter came in as I got it online.

        • That's great. Hopefully the casual worker who probably wrongly stickered it won't get into too much trouble :) About 8 months ago, EB had Dead Space 3 wrongly stickered at $36 (when the game was still somewhat new)… and I took it up to the counter to inform them that it had the wrong sticker, and they offered it to me at that price. I turned it down, but it was nice that they honoured the price.

        • +1

Actually I think they have to honour that price if they put it up on the shelf like that.

  • I have seen Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - Buccaneer Edition for $47, this is the one with the statue. Is this a good edition? Don't know how long this will last.

    • Beat the Bomb had a clearance on ACIV Special Edition (regular) for Wii U for $25 about a month ago. That will likely be the standard price by christmas.

      • This was for the xbox 360 and it has the statue.

        • Subtract what you value the statue at. I can't give you a price on the statue since everyone would value it differently.
If you value the statue at $20 or higher then its a pretty good deal.

  • Just got my order from EB today and the preowned Dragons Crown PS3 game I got was in one of their crap generic cases. Just thought I would let others know that preowned copies online can come in the generic cases.

  • um…. Thermaltake MEKA G1 Combat White mechanical keyboard is only $98. Cheapest on staticice is $119.

  • Went instore yesterday to get my MK8 preorder and grabbed GTA4 preowned on 360 for $9 and Link's Crossbow Training on Wii for $2.50 preowned.
