Linking work computer to home computer (and possibly portable tech)?

For the IT guys here, is it possible to setup a personal network where I can access programs/files/unfinished work at office from home and vice versa? I know you can definitely sync files via sharing software e.g. Dropbox. I['m thinking to take it up another level to increase productivity.

Also thinking about syncing my phone and tablet.

Ideas?

    it's called dropbox

  • At work, set up a VPN into your work network.

At home, set up a VNC server on your PC.

  • Remote desktop. Log Me in, TightVNC et cetera

So long as your work machine is turned on and accessible, you can remote login and continue to use your Office computer at home. You can also access your machine using Android or iPad tablet.

Dropbox/Sugarsync/Google Drive are all good options for syncing files between computers.

I use a program called Teamviewer which allows me to long in to any computer I've got it installed on, from any computer I've got it installed on, remotely.

The problem with any sort of remote control solution is that you're bound to get some lag over the internet, which can be a real problem depending on the tasks you're trying to do.
