if you have already downloaded or have the disc version of minecraft for the xbox 360 / ps3 you can just pay 4.99 to upgrade to the xbox one / ps4 edition rather than buying a new xb1 or ps4 copy of the game at full retail.
pretty sure u cant upgrade a x360 to a ps4 or v.v. tho.

info may help people who have preordered the xb1/ps4 versions at eb games etc and can now cancel the order and save $.

game releases august 2014.

you have 1 year to upgrade.
ozbargain wouldnt let me put an expiry date more than 1yr ahead.

  Basically PS3 Minecraft (digital) owners get PS Vita version for free (crossbuy) and can upgrade to PS4 version for $5.

  Same deal for Xbox 360 (digital) owners with Xbone version.

  Mojang is working on a way for disc owners to upgrade with MS and Sony. Nothing promised there yet though.

    August for Vita (same as PS3 version) PS4 and Xbone (both larger scale than 360/PS3/Vita versions)

    Vita/PS3 saves can be exported to PS4 version but not vice versa.

  So does that mean if you've borrowed your friends Minecraft Xbox 360 physical disc copy and played online you can upgrade to the Xbox One edition for $4.99?

    I had a read of the Mojang page and it seems only across the same platform. I guess it's based on having the same gamertag.
