    Zperia Z

$430 dollah. Local stock. 13 megapixel Sony camera.

    Zperia T2 Ultra (Phablet)
    http://www.mobicity.com.au/sony-xperia-t2-ultra-d5322-dual-s…

$410 + delivery costs. Looks to be grey import. Again, uses the same camera as Zperia Z.

For $450ish there's a LG G2, after claiming cashback from Dick SMith. see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146508

    • Probably about the best you'll get at the moment.
The Xperia's have some of the best Android Cameras.

    Nexus 5 ($419)

    • +1

      Not the greatest camera sadly.

      • +1

The camera is fine in HDR+ mode, providing the light's OK.

The support is the major plus point - you know its going to be seeing the first updates for quite a while to come.

      • Req good cam

I'd say my nexus 5 has a good camera, depends how you view a good camera to be! Outperforms other cameras in certain aspects but falls behind in some others.

        • +1

I agree, nexus 5 camera is not bad at all ! Especially in HDR mode.

    • It's not a great camera.

    • +2

      Impossible to acquire without invite.

  • Desire 816 for $339 + $19 delivery. 13 megapixel back, 5 megapixel front (if you're into selfies then this is the best on the market.)

    Otherwise, I'd give the Xperia Z/T2 suggestion a +1 but if you're not worried about importing it's cheaper elsewhere ($345 + $23): http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/sony-xperia-z-lt36-m…
    http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/sony-xperia-t2-ultra…
If you can splurge a bit more, then the Z1 or Z1 Compact has a 20.7 megapixel shooter:

  • Feepitee: i would have gotten that HTC phone if it was that price when I was looking to buy a phone last year in September last year!

  • Thanks a lot guys for your suggestions.

If camera quality is not preference then which would be best buy here looking at overall features?

    • +1

      The Nexus 5

    • How good a camera do you really want?

  • HTC one X around $250 from EBay, great Android with a brilliant 8mp camera, 32gb internal storage, has got every feature possible except for high end phone features. Why spend $400 when $250 buys the same goodies, can't go wrong.

    • Do they still have the battery issues though?

    • Anything with Tegra 3 is bound to have shorter battery life. I have the LG optimus 4x HD, which has the same specification. Even with the stock 2100mah battery it loses out to the Samsung S3 with Exynos CPU in terms of endurance.. If you look at the tests in the link, the Samsung is consistently number 1 in the battery test.

I've been using this Tegra 3 device for 15 months now, I don't recommend any phone with a Nvidia Tegra chipset (it gets hot during prolonged use and the power consumption skyrockets whenever hardware accelleration is involved).

      • There's one exception to that, the Acer A510. That thing will last you hours of use since it has a 9800mah battery.

        • We're talking about phones, not tabs.

        • Anything with Tegra 3 is bound to have shorter battery life.

        • Yes, and that would still hold true if the Acer A510 had a more efficient SoC.

  • My teenage duaghter has one and as teenagers go, she uses the guts out of it and doesn't put it on charge until bed time. She's had the phone for 6 month's.
I agree they did have batt issues, my HTC desire HD will go for maybe 5 hours, lucky I've got spare batteries, the new HTC's are very efficient.

    • HTC One X's battery life is pretty bad. It only has a 1800mah battery that's not removable meaning it'll only last you for as long as the battery holds out. Buy a Samsung S3 if you're after something similar.

LG G2 D802 16GB now around $402 delivered from Kogan?

    • Okay, this is definitely the best value out of all those suggested, it has the Nexus 5 specs and the great 13 megapixel OIS camera. The LG Optimus UI is ugly but otherwise it's perfect.

      • Awesome, thats scotty for sharing this.
Does this LG G2 D802 16GB now around $402 delivered from Kogan - has local warranty?

        • I'm not scotty but Kogan sells grey import so no local warranty….

        • Yes LG Australia certainly doesn't want to know them. Kogan is the one providing 12 months warranty here.

        • thanks, shared this deal here :
