Put one of these 1tb as primary drive in iMac 27" from 2009 and it FLIES!

    • how did you do that?

if i can get a 1tb one, i reckon its worth it.

    • Hey…im wanting to put a ssd in my 21" imac 2012 but am told its one hell of a job :(

      Pookie

      • I replaced the existing hard drive.
A lot easier than I thought and than it looks online, but good to have someone to help (easier with two people)
Need to buy a cheap 3.5" hard drive bracket to hold 2.5" SSD in place.
There are many guides on the internet, Ifixit is good.
Need two suction cups for the screen and a paperclip to make hook to lift LCD.
I think you need t8 and t10 screwdrivers as well.
The only thing I didn't take into account was when installing the ssd it doesn't have a heat sensor socket so fan goes full speed constantly.
Luckily once you have osx reinstalled there's a simple free program that fixes this: http://exirion.net/ssdfanctrl/
It now runs faster than it did 4 years ago! I previously added an extra 8gb ram also which also helps but nowhere near as much.
        Have fun!

      • Oh, and you'll need to create a bootable osx USB or SD card to reinstall osx. I also did time machine restore from time capsule which took about 8 hours.

        • did you setup as two different volumes? or as a fusion setup?

        • Replaced existing drive entirely so only a single 1tb drive

    120,250,500 available.

Getting old. Looked too quick thought they had this many in stock.

  • Stay cool guys.
The important is that OzBargainers got a cheap pricef for the things they want!

  • Samsung make good SSDs. They just keep dropping in price! Great deals on these. Wish I bought my SSD now rather than a month ago.

If you did that you'd be hoping in one month's time that you bought it then and not today.

  • could not find the shipping to OZ - but found this one

    Crucial M500 960GB SATA 2.5-Inch 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter/spacer) Internal Solid State Drive CT960M500SSD
@ US $449.99 & FREE Shipping to AU - is it a good deal?

Am I missing something? sorry new to this but having fun with the deals

Its not free shipping to Aus, and its ok, i have two of them currently in my main PC, its an older SSD so not quite as fast as the 840 evo, but still a good unit, for the extra 2 bucks i would get the samsung.

  • I'm struggling to decide between a 120GB SSD, just for my OS (windows 7) and a few programs, or going all out for a 1TB SSD to install all my programs on. I have plenty of SATAII storage.

Would running games and applications like Adobe photoshop and Cyberlink director run much faster from an SSD?

    • It will definitely improve the speed of Photoshop and cyber link with ssd. Does your PC only have sata2 or does it have sata3 as well? Sata2 won't be able to use this ssd to the full potential.

      • Yes I've got the Z77 Extreme motherboard it has Sata 3.

Will it be a huge help with gaming too? If games aren't necessary then I think a 512GB will suffice

I would strongly advise against getting a 120g drive. After a year or two it will be full and you'll be struggling to free up space, installing programs on other drives, and wishing you'd bought bigger.
Personally, if i were upgrading now I'd get a 500G (240G if price is really a big issue) for primary and a big, cool running and reliable WD green 4tb for storage. That'd be the perfect mix i rekon.

Hasn't happened to me yet. I have plenty of space on my OS SSD, and the only programs I've installed elsewhere are Steam and Origin, for obvious reasons.

I have a 60gb ssd that I bought 2 years ago and still have plenty of room. Sure, it'd be nice to have more, but I think 120gb is plenty for anyone considering installing OS + a few games/all applications on it.

Also, you can disable hibernation on windows, which will free up however much RAM you have on the SSD (e.g. if you have 8gb ram, you'll have 8gb more space on ssd).

        • +1

It's true that you can make concessions to free more space, but disabling hibernate is disabling one of Windows most useful features. With 16g of ram the hibernate file and page file blow away 30g, windows another 20. My old 60g was horrendously difficult to manage.
I've recommended 120g drives for friends when they were the price point, and now I'm responsible to help them free up space when they inevitably run out. I wish I'd pushed them to buy bigger.
But sure, not everyone uses their computer the same way, if you're building a pc for your gran a 120g should be fine :-)

Also to answer the original question, my old sata2 60g took photoshop from a 1min 30 boot on a regular hard disk, to 5 seconds. Yes it'll make a difference :-)

        • +1

Hibernate isn't really necessary in my opinion.. Sleep does a similar job for me anyway, so I don't need the feature.

I think 120gb is a good price/value point at the moment. When 240gb is $100, then by all means I would recommend that, but not quite yet :)

When you write about WD Green and use the word reliable, you have to remember the UN in front. Otherwise people migth get the wrong impression and think WD Green is good, when n fact it is the second worst model of drives behind Toshiba 2.5" of any sort.

1TB flash storage?!!! What year is this? 2015???

  • A great price.

  • Great deal. Thank you Original Poster.

I have recently purchased 2 Crucial M500 480GB from Amazon.com for USD $209.99 each using my 28 Degrees Mastercard. I paid around USD $32 for 3 days shipping from USA. I love these Amazon excellent price SSD deals. I buy from them because of their the greatest customer service.

  • Thanks OP. Bought the 250. My 120 intel msata died on the weekend. I am back to my old 120 first gen SSD which I have been using as my games drive. This will get me back up to speed and get rid of a second drive.
    Thanks again.

  • Hi, Thanks OP. I have been waiting for a 50c/GB larger size SSD. This is an excellent deal I think.

How is Amazon with warranty of computer parts? Do you have to send it back to them at your cost?

How long do they generally take to repair or send back replacement?

  • If anyone was interested, they also have mSATA versions of all of these drives for about 10-20% more:

    • I am waiting for the msata price to come down.
