I've been keeping an eye on this for a while and according to Camel Camel Camel (http://camelcamelcamel.com/Star-Trek-Complete-Original-Seaso…) this is the cheapest this has ever been. Either way, seems like a good deal to me.

  • Not a bad price. I bought the 3 seasons for $83 delivered during a Big W buy 2 get 1 free deal. And i thought that was a good deal.

With standard delivery from Amazon US though don't expect to get this any time soon. I've had standard deliveries take over a month to arrive. Granted this was during when the USA had the severe snow blizzard weather a few months ago.

  • Is there much point in getting the original series on Blu-ray over DVD? In terms of picture/sound quality DVD would but good enough for a show this old.

Reading the comments on Amazon, it sounds like this has 'enhanced' effects. Might not be to the liking of people after the 'original' episodes as they originally aired.

Still, good price for what it is

From the reviews I've seen, there is a pretty decent upgrade to this vs the DVD version (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Star-Trek-The-Original-Series-…). But fair point on the enhanced effects.

    • +3

Yes there is. Paramount completely remastered the original series specially for blu-ray with updated special effects, HD video and probably comes with uncompressed sound. It's a big upgrade over the DVD.

Also the blu-ray contains the original untouched episodes as they originally aired that can be played back. So you get a selection of either the original untouched episodes or the new digitally enhanced for HD episodes.

      • Thanks for the info, good to know that you get a choice of original or updated for each episode.

    • Not too sure if it's just tng, but I'm sticking with DVD and using my ps3 to upscale , Blu ray in the middle of my screen bugs me to tears almost

      • +1

How do you mean blu-ray in the middle of the screen?. The original Star Trek series has always been in native 4:3 scale. The DVD release will be no different. The same goes for Star Trek TNG also a 4:3 scale.

I believe it's only Star Trek Enterprise that was recorded in 16:9 scale.

  • Good price and region free. The cheapest they have been locally in the past was $29.55 each at JB 20% off sales. The update is worth it. Also good to have both original and remastered CGI for each episode in the original aspect ratio. Plus original mono and remastered 7.1 HD audio.

    • They were cheaper during a 25% off Big W sale in December last year: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/127930 I got the Complete Series box set delivered for $61 (would've been ~$55 in-store).

As far as I'm concerned, they're really overpriced normally. Also, if anyone else cares about such things, the US complete series doesn't come in an actual box set like the Australian one.

      • Who needs a box. These still come with the slipcovers.

        • The main reason I like it is that it actually says "Star Trek" in the original font on the spine, haha. It obviously wouldn't have stopped me buying from the US if it was cheaper, though, just letting anyone know who might care.

      • You'll never find this kind of stuff in store at Big W anymore. Online + delivery is the best way to shop at Big W. Agree to overpriced. I remember when the Star Trek DVDs first came out they were well over $200 per season.

  • The amazon site says these are region a, but we are region b, are these secretly all regions or something?
