What would you choose - outdated flagship phone or current budget phone?

So i'm heading overseas in less than a month and i'm in need of a new phone.

Don't want to spend more than $300 (TRS). At the moment tossing up between the well reviewed Moto g or the ageing but solid Lumia 920.

Currently using WP8.1 so i quite like the o.s. Phone seems very feature-packed too plus its 32gb.

I can get the Lumia for (hopefully) $300 from ebay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Unlocked-Nokia-Lumia-920-Wind…

Otherwise i was planning on getting the moto g from officeworks and also picking up the Logitech u.e boom box to take the total to approx $300.

Problem is the moto g is only 8gb but i'll also get the speakers which have had very positive reviews. Otherwise i can get the 16gb online for not much more but no T.R.S (Works out better value that T.R.S)

Thoughts on how i should proceed?

  • Heading overseas? Travelling over water? I wouldn't risk it. Don't leave home without one.

Firstly, you need to re-read the TRS rules… you have to spend more than $300 to claim back the GST!

For Windows, I'd be looking at the new models for better future-proofedness. It's still developing rapidly as MS try to catch up and as a result MS are dumping handset support.

For Android, it's already matured sufficiently that the Budget models are exceptionally good value and software updates will come for them.. either through Official channels, or unoffciial channels.

    • This. $299.95 for the Nokia aint gonna cut it.

  • Also, from the looks of it, that ebay link that you have provided for the Nokia seems to show that the product will be sourced from HK, and no where did I see (unless I am blind) on the listing any mention of a tax invoice being provided, which is what you will need for the TRS, even if it WAS over $300. Sorry tho if this info is wrong, and you have already checked out this stuff with the ebay seller.
