Nitecore P12. This isn't a standard DX $3 torch. Use the code "p12" at checkout at banggood. Takes the price down to US $39.99 delivered, for what I would argue is almost the best bang-for-buck torch you can buy for under $100.

Bare in mind, to get the full benefit from it you will need to invest in an 18650 battery and charger. Most o/s retailers won't ship lithium batteries.

Say what you like about Banggood, but I have used them a fair bit over the last 6 months and they have been great with shipping and communication.

  • Is it worth buying if I have sunwayman d40a

    • +2

Different light. This is more pocketable in jeans for example, although still not light or unobtrusive as an EDC. Ive got single CR123 XML2 for that. But you can pocket these. Not necessarily any brighter though as the D40A has 4 x 1.5v batteries, which easily deliver the voltage the LED gets from an 18650 too (theres amps and sag to consider but not in either of the lights mentioned so its a moot point, I dont think either are driven hard). Its why the D40A is so bright. At least thats my understanding of the way these things work. It wont have the same throw or spill as the D40A though, the D40A has a larger reflector and makes for a great beam. But I cant be sure as I havent seen the P12 beam. It might flood really nicely.

Worth noting, the usual Chinese stores cant deliver 18650s at the moment. Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 caused some ripples and knee jerk reactions.

For the money, its a good deal. Im contemplating one, but Ive just bought and received 6 others, and am waiting on a couple more already. Everywhere Ive looked, they are around $60.

      Edit: $48AU at Dino Direct…

      • I can't really add to Tuba's excellent response, other than to give you a link to a beam comparison picture. For me, there isn't much in it between the 2. I have a Nitecore EA4, a Nitecore HC50, a Foursevens QP2A, and a Foursevens Atom AL (and a crap-ton of $3 cree's). I intend to switch the EA4 & QP2A for the P12. I love the EA4 (never had any button issues) and QP2A, but I get roughly the power of the first with the size of the second. The EA4 will likely end up on gumtree, and the QP2A will go to the Mrs.

  • Good price.
But is Nitecore a reputable brand after the EA4 EA8 button fiasco.
Sorry but I still have a bad taste in my mouth.

    • +1

Nitecore are fine. Every maker has issues at times dont let it put you off in this case. Nitecore are respected, but not budget. I havent read much on this light though, so cant help.

    • If you are looking for a light similar to the P12 and aren't willing to go with Nitecore, have a look at the Thrunite TN12 2014 version. If I didn't find the P12 for $40, I would have gone with the Thrunite. I personally have an EA4 and wasn't affected by the button issue, but if you were then I wouldn't blame you for steering clear of them.

    • Lol
I must have drawn the short straw, both my EA4 & EA8 were affected.
Maybe a lesson for an early adopter.
Love the lights, just didn't expect such a failure in a potential quality product.
Bought the d40a,very happy with it.

      Oldsee

  • Darn it ! You guys just made me spend $US40 on this torch, $US18 for 2XSanyo 18650 cells and $US14 on a new Nitecore I2 because my current lacross can't do Li cells… Banggood refused to ship the batteries, Dx.com accepted the order, we'll see…

And all I use my torches for are to look at the back or innards of my PC !

  • Very impressive torch, just received mine today. the build quality is really good and the light is very bright. i just checked banggoods site and the code "P12" still works. so if anyone still want the torch they can still get it with the discount.

    • I was hoping to have mine by the weekend but it didn't show up. It has to be said that banggood seem to have picked up their game with shipping speeds.
