    • Under the product information tab it said flash not included…

  • Amazing price but this price stays the same since last year.

I got it with flash for $299 last year.

I found that most of the time I don't need flash.

I am wondering how many they have stocked still available after a year.

      • I have not used my speedlight once. No idea what I'm going to use it for.

        • That's what I thought thus why I took the plunge. I'm a bigger fan of natural light photography anyway.

If this is meant to be a compact MILC option, I certainly don't want to be lugging around any extra accessories.

The little SB-N5 flash is incredible for indoor photos. If you've ever lugged around a large bounce flash you soon come to appreciate just how small and light that thing is, and it is just about indispensable indoors on the V1. I'd argue it's essential, especially if you only have the V1 with kit lens. It often means the difference between a crap shot and brilliance. Very often! It also comes in handy as a great fill-flash outdoors.

Indoors, bouncing light off the ceiling is a revelation for anyone used to harsh "in your face" flashes. The result is brilliant. I'm not sure why there is not more SB-N5 love here. It is the perfect match to the V1 and it means not lugging around a huge tilting/swivelling flash, which would otherwise be needed for the kind of results you get from it. It's not the most powerful flash in the world but it's easily my most useful and most-used flash indoors.

I spoke to the DJ salesman when I bought it last year and he said that DJ bought a boat load from Nikon expecting it to he a hot seller. They were wrong and trying to clear them. They didn't buy as many flashes tho…

        • Bought too many white ones too by the looks of things… but I'm curious to whack a red 10mm f/2.8 on the front of a white body… now that would be an interesting colour scheme IMHO

  • Cheers superforever, forgot to add that

  • Not sure mate,I couldn't imagine they would have a heap of stock.

when you are taking photos outside you need Flash (as fill flash), or you'll be turning the subjects into the sun and capture a lovely squinting face! is that what you want? squinting faces or Sunglass wearing subjects? or pro shots with fill flash?

    • Unless done well, fill in flash looks really unnatural and not always needed. I find a reflector generally yields better results in outdoor portraits if one is going to the extent of extra lighting outdoors. Also conserves battery power.

  • Thanks OP. Was looking for a new compact or mirrorless. This is cheaper than the Canon S110s I got my bro and Dad and will give me a chance to get to grips with EVFs.

  • Good price. My only real issue with white V1 is that it's glossy / slippery as opposed to the black V1. Plus it's a mixture of black & white. Nikon clearly has too many of these things to get rid of. I highly recommend the SB-N5 flash since it comes with none in-built. The electronic shutters on these cameras is fun. When it comes to noise and high ISO, pic quality is better than nearly all small sensor compacts but not close to a larger sensor camera (digital SLR, mirrorless with Micro Four Thirds and APS-C or larger sensors…).

    • Yeah, that seems to be the case with most cameras where the white one is too glossy and doesn't have good grip compared to it's black, matte surfaced counterparts.

But it's almost 30% more for the black thus why I got the white in the end.

Plus it's only for me to get use to milcs and evfs.

      • The black one was the same price a little while ago. This is good value regardless…and should heat up a bit less in the scorching sun too. EVF and mic input is a good combo for sure.

edit: looks like they have sold out.

        • Darn! I would have preferred black… easier to match up lenses colourwise! Oh well, as an ozbargainer, we go for the most cost effective option.

  • No worries Mugsy,I don't know much about cameras, but it seemed like a pretty good deal.Enjoy!
