  • Brands on this list are a bit ho hum.. anyway.. ta..

Yeah, seems to be off Amazon's vast collection of faux-Swiss watches that are always at '90% off' a ridiculous RRP. Can't really get excited about any of these.

    • Some OK Swiss/German Brands in there:

Laco, Fortis, Revue Thommen, Marvin, Louis Erard, Glycine, maybe U-Boat if that style is your thing!

  • mostly offbrand stuff and offcuts

  • yeah, what ever happened to their nice selection of Casio and Seikos?

    • They have literally thousands of em, just not part of this sale.

  • This selection is very entry level. It seems like I get an Amazon email with a similar deal every few days. Hilarious RRPs. Next…

Mostly Meh but there a few decent watches in there. If you are a fan of the German WW2 'Fleiger' style watch there are some Laco watches with Miyota movements that should work out sub $400 with the code.

I have always liked the Glycine Combat Sub and some of the Fortis Spacematic watches, each should work out around the $1K mark. I am also intrigued by the newly re-invented Marvin watches. Armand Nicolet (not to be confused with the regular 'Nicolet') makes some beautiful watches.

Unfortunately nothing in 'late night impulse buy' territory for me and I doubt the deal would still be on when I flipped one of my existing watches to free up the cash. Would like one of those Spacematics though!!! This one would do:

The Laco watches are incredible IMO. Steer clear from the entry level quartz/mineral crystal and you'll get a miyota movement (Citizen) with scratch proof sapphire crystal. These have real history. I'm drooling…

      http://www.amazon.com/Laco-1925-861690-Classic-Stainless/dp/…

      • Yep great history, every once in a while one of the original Luftwaffe ones from WW2 pops up on the collectors boards

        Great find.

I know squat about watches and a friend who does, suggested that very watch to me a while back and the thing's been sitting in my Amazon wishlist for nearly a year but I couldn't stomach paying $400+ on the thing (I'm used to Timexes) as much as I loved the look.

        $330 is a pill I can swallow.

        • 330 is a pretty good price. I'd get it. Wish i wasn't already saving up for my dream watch… otherwise i'd snap one of these up.

        • I literally just unboxed a Citizen Nighthawk. Curious to know what your dream watch is?

      • What's the difference with this version
        http://www.amazon.com/Laco-Miyota-Automatic-Pilot-861690/dp/…
that makes it ~$40 cheaper than the one linked above?

"Sold by Just Watch Me. and Fulfilled by Amazon"

          VS

"Ships from and sold by Amazon.com."

        • Very nice watch. Do it!

        • hmm .. One of the purchase reviews cites differences between the ETA & Miyota movement versions saying the ETA version is more expensive and
" the ETA version is 28.8K BPH (beats per hour) while this watch with the Miyota is nearer 21.6K BPH"

        • +1

Depends on your budget. Both are quality.

        • ETA is a genuine Swiss made automatic movement, Miyota is a Japanese Citizen made movement. Both are well regarded, ETA is considered to be slightly higher grade and is more expensive to buy. ETA is owned by the Swatch group and they have recently started refusing to sell their movements to companies outside the Swatch watch group. This has prompted other watch companies to look elsewhere for their movements.

  • What does everyone think of this watch here?

    http://www.amazon.com/Sector-R3273975002-Racing-Analog-Stain…

I have been looking at chronographs and have close to no knowledge of watches and brands - I have recently lost another watch that looks similar to this and would like to replace it.

Another I have been looking at that looks similar - http://www.watchshop.com/mens-accurist-chronograph-watch-mb1…

I have never heard of either Sector or Accurist - and have noticed that they are fairly new makers in the industry- does anybody have any experience/ preference between these brands?

    • +1

For those prices you can get a very decent watch that are better quality from more reputable companies like citizen or seiko. I would go for an automatic personally - no battery change$.

      Similar and solar - http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SSC007-Stainless-Steel-Black/dp/…

      • wow I didn't realize seiko watches go for that cheap! Thanks a lot I will need to do a lot more research before I pull the trigger!

Also, do you have any experience with Amazon sellers? I am not sure how trustworthy some of these sellers are - and some don't offer warranty through the manufacturer (Seiko) but through the seller themselves. How do I pick the right sellers?

        Cheers!

You could literally spend days trawling through Amazon watches. It's hypnotic! Take you time and research what you can get for your budget. Check their product codes and search Google images and forums for what they look like on the wrist. Also check the Websites I mentioned above. They are reputable and mostly ship from Singapore and often cheaper.

        • I was literally just on creationwatches a few minutes ago! Glad to know I'm on the right track - thanks for your help and hopefully I find a good one at a decent price.

I have asked them if they are still keeping this particular watch in stock or if they are getting any new ones soon:

          http://www.creationwatches.com/products/seiko-chronograph-wa…

it looks the best out of their selection and for that price I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

        • Skywatches who have been on here before have it.

          http://www.skywatches.com.sg/reviews/seiko-classic-100m-chro…

  • I can't get this to work on the Timex watches.

It's enough to make God wonder why he bothered inventing the iPhone…

    • +3

Watches aren't just about telling time. If it was then there wouldn't be a high end market!

      • There was a high end market for tulip bulbs at one stage too!

I suppose you'll be telling me next that God didn't even invent the iPhone…
