Cheers TA, been looking for a new watch with a metal band.

Just a correction on your description

    with no battery replacement ever.

That's not necessarily true, the battery gets degraded if you discharge it too often. Best to keep it charged, and even then the battery of any solar powered watches will need replacing, though thats once every 5+ years i believe.

This is all info from what i've read online, please correct me if i'm wrong =)

    • Pretty sure these have a capacitor, not a battery…
Having said that, the capacitor does need periodic replacement…

      • they use a battery

        • Google begs to differ, but I'm happy to be corrected if you can show reliable evidence..

i have 3 dead ecodrives over the years that need new batteries

not a big deal, i dont expect much from sub $500 watches

        • they used to "borrow" from seiko for the capacitor (5 years+), then replaces with lithium (10 years+)

          Wiki stated lithium

    • I've a Citzen Eco-Drive watch. I've worn it pretty much continuously for 10years. Its getting a bit scratched but its still works a-ok.

Now, its entirely possible, that 10 years later these watches aren't built to the same quality. You would hope that the tech would have improved to make up for it though.

      • from what I know, technology became cheaper, and build not to last as long as 10 years ago as it's expensive.

I leave my 13 year old watch in the light and it still keeps perfect time.

Where does these Citizen watches made? Hope it's not China.

    • i would suspect the movt is jap but they would be cased and banded in china

for $99 i dont expect much

  • Love my Eco Drive - no problems for 6 years of daily use. Keeps decent time too.

    • How do you know the kept time is decent? For all we know, time could be an illusion.

      • Or a dream within a dream…

Back on topic, this is def a good deal. Thanks for sharing TA!

  • Savings not quite what it seems, but reasonable. (saved $14 overall).

RRP is dubious, these are the cheap models.

They had the same ladies watch advertised for $ 88 in the past

I've got an eco drive from 10 years back, it goes through hibernation during winter (which I don't mind) and becomes good again when the weather heats up. Keeps perfect time nevertheless.

I would get the Seiko 5 instead.
Indestructible automatic movement and looks better IMO.

  • Was really excited about this until … not "Made in Japan".
