Are tempered glass screen protectors worth the price?

I was curious on what your experiences/opinions are in regards to those pricey tempered glass screen protectors for phones. I can get 3 of the regular ones for ~$10 but a single tempered screen protector would cost me at least $30

So are they really worth what they're charging?

Try ebay I got one for my z2 and only took a few days to arrive. It seriously looks amazing just like it would without a screen protector, only downsides are it's a bit thick and it is a fingerprint magnet. It was also super easy to apply.

I haven't thankfully had a chance to test the screen protecting abilities yet though.

    • Do you know how many mm yours is? I think I saw one that was 0.26mm thick but that was about $35..

How is the Z2 anyway? I was thinking of getting it, but heard that there have been problems. Plus, I'm still debating what network I should go with.

      • I think I got this one, which says 0.3mm http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/141274873446

z2 for $672 was really good value. Pretty good so far with it but I ended up buying a screen protector for the back, the memory card occasionally disconnects and then reconnects (though I think this is a problem with when I originally installed cyanogenmod on my s3), and there's something else that escapes me at the moment.

Battery life is amazing coming from the s3 (can get at least two days with average use).
The software is really good, it feels a bit like stock android but with some sony stuck on top, you'll want to install a different launcher though. Can't uninstall some apps though.
Comes with an FM radio, if you're into that.
Camera is pretty good but from when I initially tried pano and 360 results were a bit rubbish.

I'd recommend going to a store and have a play with one and other phones.

Telechoice might be the way to go regarding networks, they use Telstra 3G, sort of tempted to jump ship since TPG upped the price and decreased the data on my plan (I'm half waiting for a decent 4G plan).

        • Why did you get one for the back? Thanks for the info, think I'm gonna get the z2 :) I'm settling on a plan though, and was debating between virgin/optus

        • glass back…. though i got a poetic case from us ebay

edit: the thing i forgot was that the fancy noise cancelling earphones don't come with most of the phones only select plans….can get between $60-$80

  • Most phone screens are pretty tough anyway. Tempered glass or not, I doubt that it'll prevent your screen from cracking if you drop it screen first onto the pavement.

    • Thats true, but some people had said that the screen protector cracked instead of their phone screen, I don't know how true that is

      • I can say they are worth it. I got one for $13 on Ebay. I dropped my iPad face down and the screen protector shattered, but the screen remained intact.

  • I have had experience with various types of screen protectors (plastic, glass and currently using Tech 21's screen guard).

Plastic ones are usually about a couple of dollars online, glass can be had for about $7-10 online.

Good thing about glass ones is that they feel smooth to use, quite transparent and easy to apply without bubbles.
Only downside is the glare when reading in the sunlight as usually use matte plastic screen protectors.

I had a customer who had a tempered glass screen protector on his Galaxy S4 which he dropped. The screen protector was all shattered. Peeled it off in one piece to reveal a perfect screen. No doubt he bought another one to replace it.

  • Update Got the tempered glass cover, was totally worth it! looks like a beast! Thanks guys for all your help!

  • single tempered screen protector would cost me at least $30

I have seen them on ebay for around 7 to 15 dollars for a 4.7 inch screen. Bought one seems fine, yet to drop test.

    • Bought a front and back one with a lens cap, costs me $9

  • I've bought 2 .3mm 9h tempered glass from the bay, my wife's blender cracked em both, just bought a .26mm one for her last week, we'll see how long that last. Well they're cheap at least ($10 plus free shipping).

I suppose the other way to think about it is it saved the phone's screen twice. She's dropped the phone before too, but that didn't crack the glass. The blender is a thing of awe…
