Absolute bargain? Or….extremely high margins? :)

    • +8

Well considering they are hand made in Australia and you can expect a typical pair to last you 20 years or more if you take care of them, I consider it a bargain.

      • -1

I think they are quite ugly. Toe is too square.

      • -1

The other side of the coin: not particularly comfortable boots, first thing you have to do is add a hard wearing topy sole if you don't want to fork out big dollars when your leather sole quickly wears through. If you're lucky the top leather will last but it might also crack no matter how well you look after them. Decent boots but quality wise they aren't a patch on their boots of yesteryear in my (limited) experience. Good price though.

        • +1

          RMW sells non-leather soles too…

        • Yep I heard that too, and my 2nd pair bough 5 years ago, represent that lower quality tanning.

I understand the tanning process was sent overseas

  • +3

That's a crazy-good bargain for RMW, its pretty much the same price as their factory seconds but without the hit and miss.

My old man has had a pair for 15yrs which are still going strong with only one or two sole replacements. I've got 3yo and 6mo old pairs and can attest to their sturdiness and comfort.

For anybody looking to buy these, RMW sizing is significantly different so i highly recommend you try on the boots before buying

  • Is this online only? I would like to try a pair on.

    • +1

You can always go to a store to try them on and then order online if required.

      • True. I just hope they don't sell out!

  • Good find.

  • +1

factory seconds are $250, I know because I checked out harbour town, qld on the weekend. Almost bought them then, but lucky I didn't. Gonna pick them up for $215 now :D

  • +1

out of stock for the RMW :(

    • Still have stock available as at 4:23pm 17/06/14

  • alot of the lawyers wear them… i must wear them too!

    • Hahaha they do. I see a lot of barristers wear them. There's other shoes out there that are nicer in design and polish for similar prices.

  • Where does it say only for today/tonight?

  • keep on getting this
Error:Sorry, an error has occurred while trying to retrieve the inventory status of this product.

    • Getting the same error. Anyone confirmed a purchase or is the site just borked?

      • i just got a pair. that error means there's no stock in that size/store. It seems that the front end website is laggy and not updating stock levels quick enough.

        • Edit: I just did it but it was click and collect. The delivery option is screwed because apparently they don't have any info from their warehouse.

  • There are none in Brisbane size 9-10.

Who want boots lasting 15 years? I rather get cheapy $50 max and chuck it in the bin after 6-9 months.

    • +2

They're comfortable, strong and sturdy. Good materials, though I' ve been told the tanning was exported so is of lower quality now

If I can get quality boots like these for $50 that only falls apart at the end of 6-12months, I would.

    • -1

These boots aren't so much about the age they last but the comfort. I wore cheap pieces of rubbish to work for years and my feet hurt everyday; after investing in these they feel so good and I no longer get aches when walking.

    • +8

So a pair of $50 shoes every 9 months over 15 years comes to just under a grand spent on cheap, uncomfortable shoes. Why not just spend the $220. Saves the time and energy of heading into the shops and you don't look unprofessional in worn, ratty shoes every 6-9 months. That and the comfort is on another level altogether.

    • +1

I've bought cheap shoes before. Never again.

Good boots when looked after will save you money.

  • finally managed to get a pair of 8s (half a size too small), click and collect from indro. Guess I'll try them there and see if they actually fit.

    • I've found all there sizes are too big, if your 9 buy an 8

  • Went to Rundle Mall earlier. They had some black and chestnut in stock, not sure which sizes because I needed them in a 5 and they only had 7 and up. Bummer. I guess seconds for me at the Adelaide Showgrounds.

    • If I may ask, what's happening at the Adelaide Showgrounds?

    Website not working for me

    Dam u Ozbargain … ordered

  • Dropped into the Indooroopilly store and grabbed a pair. The deal is instore too.

Hopefully no one has their heart set of a pair of size 12 from there in black. I got the last ones.

    • Looks like they were the last size 12s in QLD :-(

  • Seemed like no delivery stock when placing order at end of the process, so I ordered a size 8.5 Chestnut click and collect from Indooripilly. I live in regional QLD so hopefully I get to Brissy in the next 30 days otherwise they just refund uncollected C&C anyway.

If anyone in Brissy was after Chestnut in size 8.5 and they go out of stock let me know and if I can't get to Brissy we might be able to work something out so you can pick em up.

  • -1

Dammit! Looks like my size 9.5 is sold out online. Should of got it sooner.

  • Nice! Just got a ready-for-pickup e-mail for a pair of chestnut craftsmans for my Dad! He'll be over the moon.

  • Horrible site, I get that they have run out of boots and that the inventory system is returning an error, why not just give me a 'sorry we ran out' message, not some kind of inventory error and leave me on the 'pay for your item' page!

    • I had the same issue. Try Click and Collect if you can

  • I picked up a pair about 5 months ago under $200 from DJ - they had one of those sales-on-top-of-sales things going on at the time. This is a good deal nevertheless - esp. compared with the usual prices…

One thing to keep in mind is that each boot size comes in a variety of widths, which make a huge difference to the fit. As someone said above, make sure you know your size or have yourself measured in an RMW store before buying.

By the way, there doesn't seem to be any way to specify the width online, so it may be a bit of hit and miss. Get yourself into a store if possible…

  • I have a few pairs of RM's and they have lasted great, but am looking for a change. Anyone else suggest a comfortable leather boot suitable for business attire? I don't mind if it is border line 'outdoorsy'.

    • +2

If you are looking for quality I would suggest looking at what wolverine or red wing offer.

      • Thanks, I'll get them out.

    • Are these not comfortable?

  • Thanks OP, Just picked up a pair of Chestnut boots size 11. Showed no stock online but they were available for pickup from Market st store so don't give up if it shows no stock online.

  • Went instore to see what they had, got a pair of Hush Puppies Arrow Black size 9.5 (code 136586) for $80. Very happy with how they feel, and as a bonus they're wide enough to fit my orthotics! Thanks OP.

  • Awesome deal!

I have a pair of the DFC Craftsman. Best pair of boots owned. Great fit and the DFC sole makes it so comfy and snug for everyday wear. Esp. on those one day interstate trips where you have them on for literally 12+ hrs or so…

You have to get the right width as they do vary. I have not been fitted at a DJ store before. Maybe someone can advise if they have the different widths. I'm an 8G

Can you pick these up in store (click and collect) and exchange if not the right size? Looking to get a pair for a workmate but he's never been fitted before.

  • Great deal. I was in the RM Williams seconds store in Homebush last week. $250 for seconds but no chestnut colour -so walked away empty handed. Thrilled to get a A grade pair for $215. No online left - had to click and collect from Market St Sydney. Rang DJ's - they are all regular G widths.

DJs Melb only have up to sz8.5.
Went to Myer who price matched.

    • +2

Didn't even think of that after failing to find a pair at DJ's Bourke St. Shot across to Myer 15 minutes before closing on my break and haggled for them to price match. They said DJ's closed an hour earlier but they'd honour it still. Now finally a proud owner of some RM William's iconic boots.

Just wanted to stop by and say thank you for reminding me that Myer price matches, just about anything too if you ask right.

  • The site sucks, I see a lot of other "sale" items, but there is no change to the price.

Tried to go through checkout process, no change prices.

  • Thanks OzBargain…. Just scored myself a pair of size 11 RM Henley Boots in Chestnut for $215. Click and collect from Bourke St Melb! There is also a pair at Indooroopilly Qld if anyone is after a pair….

  • +1

browsing the RMWilliams website…I know they are comfortable, quality, sturdy boots..but damn, I can't tell the difference between the models. Whether its the Yearling, Craftsman, Henley, Turnout, Tambo - they all look the same.

  • Rushed into the Bondi Jctn store 10 minutes before closing, the helpful lady there fixed me up with a set of 8.5 Craftsmans. They're not on the store floor, you have to ask for someone to check the store room.
They fit almost the same as Clarks boots, which is generally 1 size smaller than most brands (UK)

  • +1

The Sydney CBD store didn't have stock for size 8.5 and DJ's website is horrible. I gave up in the end.

Next time I should just go to Myer to get them to price match.

  • Please don't think that I'm being a smarty, maybe its my age. Whats with free pickup, I live in the rural Australia and you have me wondering, do the big city shops charge to pick up?

    • +1

No, but most stores (especially online stores) don't offer a pickup option at all when buying online, hence it's called "free pickup" as an alternative to "not free shipping"

      • +1

Thanks a lot, it all makes sense now. Its true, you do learn something new every day. Thanks again

  • Did a click and collect for these which went through for the Indooroopilly store without issue.

Got a phone call today to say that due to a technical error that they did not actually have any left when I placed my order at lunch yesterday. I asked how they would provide me with my refund and was told I would receive a returns card and could I come and collect it.

Not happy that they would try and give me what is essentially a gift card, with the expectation that I would pick it up, I told them I expected a real refund. Eventually they were able to provide the refund back to my credit card.

Not at all happy with the process or the customer service.

  • My Wife also got a call saying that they did not have stock and it was a system error that the order went through. They have provided a refund to the credit card but poor service that they would not honor those orders that went through when they have replenished stock : (

  • Same. Was told there were 9 orders that went through at the Indooroopilly store that shouldn't have. I'm sure they will restock soon. I have a receipt, and I'm happy to wait…
