Cashrewards Now Offering 2% Cash Back on eBay Purchases

A couple of people have mentioned it in deal topics, it seems to have happened recently, so thought I'd mention it for those who had not noticed. I only noticed it this morning.

https://www.cashrewards.com.au/ebay-australia

Important: * You must make all purchases on eBay Australia whilst based in Australia. * The following categories will not earn cashback: Motors (Cars, Boats, Motorcycles, etc), Business, Industrial, Travel, Real Estate, Music, Gift Certificates, Charity & Non-Profit items, “Lots More” and “Other Services” (under the Services tab).

Has anyone tried it out yet?

For those of you not with CashRewards, their minimum payment figure is $5 so pretty easy to reach.

I haven't used them much in the past, I've found better returns for other sites with other cashback websites, but this 2% eBay cash back seems great, I would much prefer it to the 2 Velocity points per $1 spent from Velocity Rewards (I believe that equates to 1.11% cash back if you use the points for gift cards, eg $100 gift card for 18,000 Velocity points). However Velocity is still better when they have their occasional 4 Velocity points per $1 spent specials. If you use Velocity points for flights though then it might still work out better to use them.

I know that feeling, we have all done it!

Just tip, you can always put in wish list first then go back via CR to pay.

Pretty cool. Hopefully this means Qwibble & Starthere will shortly follow with a similar offer.

  • This worked out very well with the 15% off deal from Ebay on Sunday. It took the 2% from the total price and not the after discount price. 2% off of $589 instead of 2% off of $509.

    • Bonus! What type of item did you buy?

It sounds like those that bought gift cards only got 0.9%. Must be lower amounts depending on the category I'm thinking.

I bought a single U2713HM (The one recently sold by Dell in a 2 for $1060 deal of which i only needed 1) for $509, price listed was $599, oops. I think the seller bought the 2 monitors deal and decided to sell them for a little profit. $11 refund from cash website which makes the price equivalent to $498. Couldn't be happier.

I wouldn't have thought the cash website would be able to identify what item was purchased or even category for that matter?

        • It can determine the category that the item is in, as certain categories are exempt from cashback:

"The following categories will not earn cashback: Motors (Cars, Boats, Motorcycles, etc), Business, Industrial, Travel, Real Estate, Music, Gift Certificates, Charity & Non-Profit items, “Lots More” and “Other Services” (under the Services tab)."

Although things aren't always listed in the correct category.

I'm surprised it gave cashback at all for the gift card.

I also noticed it displays in the coupon section:

          Fashion - Women's and Men's Clothing, Shoes etc etc … - eBay
          Plus 2.00% Cashback

eBay: Electronics, Fashion, Collectibles, Games, Gadgets, Home and Garde..
          Plus 2.00% Cashback

          Expires 31/7/14

Maybe this means those sections are a bonus cashback area of 2% and the normal cashback rate is in fact 0.9%?

If it's only 0.9% it's better off using Velocity.

Oh well still something for nothing

I contacted CashRewards and they fixed up the missing cashback, so I got the full 2% now, they mentioned: Our apologies, eBay has reported some transactions at lower rates for some categories

  • I am wondering how you claim 2% cashback???

    • Just need to sign up to CashRewards.com.au, login to your account, go to ebay in the store's section (https://www.cashrewards.com.au/ebay-australia) and click go to store.

It will take you to the eBay store, just shop as normal and it will automatically track any purchases you make.

doesn't seem to work that way. See my post below.

  • So I assume you need to supply cashrewards with your bank details? Also, 2% back is not applicable to delivery OR GST - just something to be aware of.

    • Yep they pay to your bank account.

  • I registered on this web site and then clicked the link to go to ebay store from within cashrewards site. Then purchased the LG G2 and also a cover and screen protector for $328 and then $5. I thought I am done and now will get cash reward as "hamza23" explained above.

However then I checked my email next minute and saw the email from cashrewards asking me to click on a link to activate my account with them. I clicked that and went in again and realised my rewards balance is 0.

So the process is misleading and does not seem to work until you activate it. Will I get the cashback rewards now or not ? Is there any way to get it now?

    • I'm not sure the email is immediate (or works with the 20% off deal). I registered with CR on Sunday, activated, then bought something but nothing in my account yet.

I got a tracking email from cashrewards today on the amount before the 20% off which is great.

    • Wait about 4 days and see if you get an email from CashRewards about the transaction. My eBay ones always come through after 3 or 4 days. If not contact them, hopefully the fact you hadn't confirmed your account through the initial confirmation email doesn't make any difference. This is just the normal confirmation email when you sign up to any sort of account by the sounds of it. They are happy to investigate missing transactions in any case according to their website

It generally takes a couple of days or longer for them to track your transaction, at such time you will get an email confirming it, it's not instant.

Once you get the email confirming they received your transaction, the money will be deposited in your account as pending and then become available within a few weeks after that, each retailer is different.

More detailed explanation is on the websites FAQ :)

      • Thanks for the details. I hope the confirmation doesn't matter as it didn't ask anything when it showed me the buttons to go to the store directly.

        • Yeah you should be okay, worst case scenario and it doesn't come through, they can investigate missing transactions and hopefully fix it up for you.

        • That happened to me with the 15% off sale, signed up and went to EBay and bought something only to find the activation email. Clicked activate and 3 or 4 days later I got an email saying that i got my 2% off…..

Now they're just waiting on the refund date to expire before crediting me with the $11.

  • how come I haven't got any email from last week transaction

    • What date did you make the purchase? I'll check mine and see.

  • I just got an email for a purchase made on Saturday.

I see they also added a cash back schedule:

    Cashback Schedule
    Notification: 2 to 4 Days
Your cashback is notified to you by email and your rewards appear in your account as pending.

    Confirmation: Up to 40 Days
The return period of the goods has passed and/or the store has confirmed your cashback. Your rewards are now available for payment.

  • I only remember this 2% cash back AFTER I buy goods on ebay…

  • Anyone got their 22/06/2014 20% off ebay sales cashback yet? mine is still pending and will there even clear for withdraw????

    • Still pending here from the 21/6/14 as well.

      From site:

      Cashback Schedule
      Confirmation: Up to 40 Days
The return period of the goods has passed and/or the store has confirmed your cashback. Your rewards are now available for payment.

So fingers crossed it will be available within the next 8 days.

      • I have bad feeling about this already since a massive ebay purchase onslaught on 22/06/14… prepare the worst.

eBay purchases from the 22nd Of June finally got approved for me today.

        • +1

          @JSQUARED:

Nice. Mine from the 21st and 23rd of June are approved as well.

  • Has anybody checked their eBay cashback to see that the amount is actually correct? I recently found one of my transactions had a much lower cashback than 2%. Upon enquiring about this, CR said that they received less money from eBay due to the recent sales - however my items weren't even purchased during the Big Sundays.

The rep hasn't gotten back to me on the question of whether this is an overall reduction in the 2% cashback, or if they're just penalising users at random due to receiving less money from eBay due to the sales.

    Check your rewards, guys!

    • I did about a month ago as per https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/149207#comment-2091320

They fixed it to 2 percent when I contacted them.

I have made purchases multiple times each week since and just had one come through today and all have been at the full 2 percent.

Hope they fix it up for you or clarify.
