"Quality" of OzBargain Deals recently

Hey OzBargain Friends :)

I love OzBargain. It's my home page.

I just can't shake the feeling though, that in the past few months…. no ripper deals / no "ozbargained" sever crashes / awesome freebies …. have been listed.

Am I just expecting too much now?

I know some will reply with "well, thats why we need people to contribute".

But is it perhaps just a general trend with business, being tighter, a slowing economy, that is causing this decline in stunner deals? (No not Hungry Jack's).

Share your thoughts :)

Perhaps we can change this all haha.

Really? The Map+140 cap coffee machine and free JM thongs and headphones ie. UE4000/6000, iluv? And the re-emergence of ING cashbacks. wooot.

The last deal you voted on was on a 60K+ car…

    Yep

I agree it smells of a conspiracy.

I think it's time for the ACCC to get involved. There has to be a cartel of businesses who have got together and said "lets agree not to have any ozbargainable deals".

Very easy to prove, a check of all execs credit card expenses will no doubtably show purchases of discounted Pizza's from vouchers ironically found here at Ozbargain all at the same time and same day, proving they meet at a secret location to discuss.

Either that or they find Scotty and the mods have been keeping the better deals for themselves.

  • You can always change your settings so only deals with a certain amount of votes shows on the main page, so increase that until it reaches the right level of ozbargaininess.

Perhaps if you contributed too, there would be more deals.

I don't think the 'quality' of deals has been dropping. Like what everyone said, there have been some CRAZY deals going on. I just got my free thongs from JM delivered without paying a single cent and a thank you note too (no, thank YOU, JM). How much more awesome can things get?

What bothers me is the increase in the number of 'non-bargains' by reps. There are really nothing more than advertising. "70% off Item X!" when the item was indecently marked up in the first place. Not sure if it is just me but there seem to be a lot of those around of late. I recall people being far more brutal to such deals in the past when I was a mere lurker of the site. People now just seem to ignore them altogether.

Not to mention sockpuppeting too. Not sure if I am only noticing them now but the mods seem to be unpublishing 'deals' for sockpuppeting more frequently. I always ask myself if these reps ever learn from the ones who have been burned before them.

Whilst I'm not aware if the rep VS non rep deals have increased, unpopular deals is something we have been discussing. Earlier this year the performance based bans were introduced. Last month we also increased the 30 day posting ban vote average from 0 to 1 as per these guidelines.

As the months go on these changes will make an increasing difference in the reduction of unpopular deals.

Maybe it's just a case of it being picked up quicker nowadays, the software is always being improved, as are our methods and efficiency in catching it. You would be much more likely to notice a deal unpublished for sockpuppeting that was posted 1 hour ago than 12 hours ago and make it seem that sockpuppeting has increased.

    • One thing you can try would be go to your deals settings page, and then have this checked:

Do not show deals posted by Store Representatives on New Deals listing

So you don't see any reps posting in the New Deals. However if they are good enough to reach the front page, you'll still be able to see that.

  • Ebay and woollies deal are just great !

  • Maybe the sites have learnt that server crashes are bad for business and have moved their servers to ones that are instantly scalable?

As for the other comments in regards to bad deals. Say x% of deals are crap, as the site gains popularity, there will be more crap deals (as well as more good ones)

    • You have posted 0 deals yourself
    • You have voted 6 times since you joined three years ago.

Anyone else see the problem here? That you are unhappy makes me happy.

    • good catch.

@OP, why don't you contribute rather that whinging?
