What upcoming game will make you finally pick up a PS4 or Xbox One?

So guys what game has done it, what game has just got to you so bad you cannot wait anymore to purchase the console. For me it'll be the white PS4/Destiny bundle. Cannot wait to play that game, playing online with my mates is going to be Epic.
As for the Xbox One, I might buy if they release a bundle with Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
I like both but i don't see anything that will make me buy the Xbox console any earlier. i haven't looked into Xbox much, as PS4 is going to be my main gaming platform. If there is something out before Halo I can just wait and buy it at a later time when the price drops.

so they are my games what are the games that finally led to the purchase of the console.

most announced games are coming out next year so they aren't really worth buying the console for
    .
I know someone else who's getting a PS4 for Destiny and it looks like alot of people will do the same, but the game's not next gen exclusive anyway.

  • Destiny will be the trigger to go current gen and Master Chief Collection will make me go Xbox One rather than PS4.

Will likely buy PS4 close to the end of the current gen cycle since their exclusives that I love are largely single player and I'll retrospectively play them. I always prefered XBOX Live for the non-exclusive multiplayers any way.

I am very, very worried as to the future of Halo, being a gigantic Halo 1 fan myself (so, a fan of the Halo campaign and not the 'tacked on' muiltiplayer) I am utterly worried as to how 343 can manage to create a graphical remake of all 4 core Halo games as well as create a new one at the same time. Because, as we've seen from the quality leap downwards from Reach to Halo 4, 343 are… kind of talentless. To manage a huge next-gen undertaking as well as a 4 game-project is going to push them to their limits.

But, Combat Evolved Anniversary had amazing graphics. Good thing 343 didn't have to touch the already superb gameplay.

      • +2

Great point, an apprehension that I share as well. That said, I feel like the Microsoft Gaming Division have strategised MC:C, Halo 5 and the TV series to be the bait and lure to get the 360 faithfuls to the X1. In typical MS fashion, they have given 343i and the associated teams a book of blank cheques to ensure that team size won't be an issue and upcoming Halo project exceeds community expectations.

Let's hope they didn't spread their butter too thinly over bread and both titles are amazing, especially Halo 5.

      • Only Halo 2 is getting the full HD remake treatment ala Halo Anniversary. Halo 1 HD, 3 and 4 are on 360 and they will just be uprezzed to 1080p/60fps for Xbox One.

There's a good theory why they made the Master Chief collection . It is so 343 can track what maps and modes people are playing most and Halo 5 multiplayer will be made based on what is popular. Halo 4 multiplayer died off pretty early and I can see the majority of players spending most of their time playing Halo 2 maps.

      • Also a massive Halo fan - though I loved Cortana and MC's story in Halo 4, it sold the game for me. And it looked beautiful. I enjoyed 4 more than I did Reach, to be honest. Plus it looked beautiful. I'd hardly call 343 "talentless".

This statement sort of threw me:

…a fan of the Halo campaign and not the 'tacked on' muiltiplayer

But Halo has always has had excellent multiplayer? I played countless hours of split-screen (competitive and co-op) in Halo 1, and countless hours online with Halo 2. While I'd admit the online experience is not as thrilling as it once was, the multiplayer portion has never, ever felt 'tacked on'.

        • Halo Reach's ending was a brilliant piece of art; that's coming from someone who had started to hate the franchise (and had a gigantic rant when I saw brutes in Halo Reach) as they carried it out through gameplay rather than a cutscene. You really felt hopeless, you felt that everything was about to end and there was nothing you could do to stop the Covenant.

Halo 4's ending was DO THE QUICK TYM EVENT TO SAVE DE ERF! I really dislike "Save de erf" in sci-fi games that have a rich universe. Mass Effect is the main offender. It's unimaginative and reeks of cliche. Plus the new enemies were robots. Robots. Robots in a game that already has zombies and aliens. Dat creativity. What's next? Pirates, or Ninjas? Calling it now; pirate-ninjas as the main antagonists for Halo 5.

Multiplayer in general is tacked on. Do you think CoD would sell as well if it was singleplayer only? Because I think it would sell as well if it was Multiplayer only. It's a method of making money; not a method of making good games.

        • 343 talentless? Ease up!

        • They haven't shown us otherwise yet.

        • -2

Yeah, I thought reach and ODST were steaming piles of crap compared to 4… I was amazed how much more well done the story was in 4, seemed far less robotic generic military crap.

I didn't feel shit at the ending of reach, OH NO SOMEONE DYING, ANOTHER GUY IN MY SQUAD, GENERIC MILITARY MOVIE/GAME ENDING 101.

        • +1

Multiplayer in general is tacked on. Do you think CoD would sell as well if it was singleplayer only? Because I think it would sell as well if it was Multiplayer only. It's a method of making money; not a method of making good games.

I'm not talking about CoD - which is absolutely about the multiplayer (with the singleplayer campaign begin the tacked on portion). I feel that Halo, on the other hand, has always struck a nice balance between single and multiplayer. Halo 1's MP was the best since Goldeneye and set the bar for every competitive/co-operative FPS game to follow.

That last statement is a bit of a catch-all that isn't really fair. It just sounds like you don't enjoy multiplayer games - which is totally fine. Ever since Neanderthals were throwing rocks at each other (an interesting analogy to describe CoD players? :p), people have had fun playing multiplayer. It's not always a money making scheme.

        • OH NO SOMEONE DYING, ANOTHER GUY IN MY SQUAD, GENERIC MILITARY MOVIE/GAME ENDING 101.

I don't think you're thinking of the right ending; sounds like you're talking about ODST to me

(Which is still better than 4 because it's a giant homage to Firefly)

        • Dont even remember the ending of ODST, felt it was a really bad game, lots of reuse of environments, most looked the same generic city kind of stuff etc.
I did def finish it, just don't remember at all, thats how bored I was.

        • Basically, 2 guys die, Steve the Pirate gets mortally wounded and then guy from firefly and girl from Firefly save the day with the help of anonymous, helmet-wearing rookie. Huzzah!

      • I am utterly worried as to how 343 can manage to create a graphical remake of all 4 core Halo games as well as create a new one at the same time.

FWIW, the bulk of the work on the original Anniversary wasn't done by 343i, judging by the entry on Wikipedia, it was done mostly by Saber Interactive. So they would've only needed creative supervision from 343i, leaving 343 free to develop Halo 4.

        • -2

Wow. That is uh… Really embaressing for 343 then, I was just being hopeful that they had an excuse for why Halo 4 was so bad.

        • +6

The general consensus is that Halo 4 was very good. I guess there is the odd person like yourself who doesn't like it.

        • -1

You guys always get pissed at me for this, but lets play the metacritic comparison game! Which I wholly agree with, by the way.

So, just on that, Halo 4 gets the worst scores of these three (I checked 2 and 3, which also scored better). So the internet thinks it's the worst Halo game. Which is somewhat similar to what I've been saying the whole time.

        • +1

Halo 4 was the quickest I've ever gotten bored of a Halo game. I actually sold my 360 a week after buying Halo 4 as I was so over the whole franchise.

        • Ok, I'll agree that "Halo 4 sucks" is exaggerated, but the numbers speak for themselves.

You'll find the online community petered off quickly after launch, and never really sustained the number of players both Reach and Halo 3 maintained for 4 years.

Someone from the neogaf forum put together a lot of numbers quite nicely to highlight the problem.

People vote with their wallets, but they show appreciation with their time.

        • The mechanics and aesthetics of Halo 4 were fine. The levels were OK. And the story line sucked something awful.

          Just my $0.02

I'm more excited about Destiny than any future Halo game.

        • -1

You are wrongly negged, my friend.

      • -1

I played Halo back in the early days and I couldn't shake the feeling it was Doom crossed with Carmageddon but without as many types of enemy of either and a tiny dash of Niven thrown in. A poor man's Citizen Kabuto.

It hit crazy popularity. There's no denying it. But I just never got why people thought it was anything other than a really simple 4-enemies-but-different-colours-mean-different-difficulty shooter.

        • +1

As the person who started the Halo-Hate train, I still disagree with you.

        • Well yeah, that's why I replied to you. 'cause you said you were a huge Halo 1 fan.

  • Dragon age inquisition , not really into shooters… Even if it can be played on ps3 , the ps4 version should be a bit better.

    • I recently played Wolfenstein on PS3, so I can tell you; whilst the previous-gen counterparts of games still exist, the bare minimum of work is being done on them. Everything is merely to make sure it WORKS, then move onto the next-gen version. Wolfenstein had a lot of smeared textures, slow render pop-ins and a few common bugs they would've missed because of this. Therefore making the next gen versions, unfortunately, more appropriate purchases. However, people still think that means they can justify a 20 buck hike in the price for some extra textures and no new features?… Hm.

      • Well to be honest I expected this year games not being significantly different than previous gen as the new generation is just starting and will take 1-2 years to make a significant difference in games quality . Not really great exclusive until uncharted 4, but dragon age seems such a nice game and would rather playing it in the best possible experience ( no pc /Xbox gamer ). And with dicksmith lately offerings in ps4 games iam sure can get it day one for less than 60$ or hoping even better get it in a bundle !

        • I haven't looked into Dragon Age, but EA has a history of having a thing against Bioware and dicking them over at every possible opportunity. AKA Mass Effect 3's ending.

"Please EA, we need more time, pleeeeeease"
"YOU SHIP IT NEXT WEEK OR I SHIP YOU NOW"
          ":("

        • That really sucks from EA, hopefully dragon age don't fall in that , looks potentially as the best game this year ( for me ), already played other games ( killzone / assassin creed 4 in ps4 from a mate but they seemed ok not extraordinary) Sadly batman Arkham knight was delayed until 2015 but hopefully was for the best of the game.

  • +3

If you're interested in better performance and exclusives then PS4, if you want new Halo and remakes and Forza then Xbone.

    • Which one do I get if I want to shoot doods and play spawtz?

      • +1

I think you know the answer.

        • A Nokia Ngage?

        • Turbo Graphix 16

    • +1

If you're interested in better performance and exclusives then PS4

Neither console has any stellar exclusives at the moment and both have only a handful of great looking exclusives announced. As to performance… once devs have got the ins and outs of each console sorted, games that are released on both platforms are going to run similarly.

      • +2

Right now PS has the power and the better exclusives at E3.

        • +1

I agree. And I'ma just put this one out there.

          1080p.

        • The fact that current games are coming out at a higher res on the PS4 is undeniable. But I seem to remember the CoD: Ghosts devs saying it was something to do with the way the Xbox allocated resources or some such - not necessarily saying the Xbox was less powerful, but rather that it works differently. I could be totally wrong (and I don't mind, I'll end up getting a PS4 down the line anyway), but I really do think that once developers get their head around the way each console works, and how they are different, that we'll start seeing more 1080p games on the Xbox. Not that "power" really matters anyway, if one console has better games, that's the one to get - regardless of the number of pixels on your screen.

Whether or not one or the other has "better exclusives", though, is highly subjective. I personally think they are about even.

    • Better exclusives is really personal chocie isnt it?

  • Batman: Arkham Knight… I already have a PS4, but that game was the first one (well… maybe Infamous: Second Son did something similar) which made me really look forward to what Next Gen can do (since its not on PS3/360), and being the final of the Rocksteady trilogy as well… its going to be amazing.

Only bad thing was the delay to 2015, but I'm sure we can all wait!

  • If Bloodborne isn't a 9.8/10 experience, then I'm really not bothered if I have to wait til 2015 E3 to find out if there are some actually decent games coming. Okay, No Man's Sky looks really good. That shooter by Insomniac on the Bone looks really good. Fable 3 and Carckdown 2 were awful so give those a skip… Uncharted 4 is unlikely to hit shelves til 2016 so no need to buy a console yet.

Not sure why I would need one; Wolfenstein was an identical game on PS3 as it is on PS4 (a few missed pixels aside) and Ubisoft's yearly sellout game being confined to the next-gen consoles, a better reason to not get one right now.

    • +1

I don't want another Assassin's Creed for at least half a decade. How can they possibly make any improvements/advancements/cool stuff when they have to ship a AAA title annually?

      • +1

Even 2 was more of the same as 1, they just managed to fix the broken parts. Then all the subsequent AC-Spam-games came out, Ezio this, Ezio that, and everyone says "Okay we've had enough Ezio" and they're like "lol okay the protagonist is you now".

Someone needs to be fired from Ubisoft. From a cannon.

    • I actually really loved crackdown 2, was a blast multiplayer, entire game was 4 player co-op.
Crackdown 1 was the better game, but the main reason 2 wasn't as good was the inclusion of the zombies.

  • +1

Bloodborne, the PS4 exclusive to watch early next year.

  • +2

The Halo Collection for Xbox One. The new Crackdown doesn't hurt either. I was really hoping they'd release the Halo's for PC this time around, but I suppose that was an extremely small chance considering it's the Xbox's flagship title.

I don't really think it's worth buying at the current price for one series though, so I'll be waiting for a good price before I jump (more so that usual)

    • I hope Crackdown is good. The first one I got bored of relatively quickly, and I never played the second (which reviewed pretty averagely, from memory).

They'll do a Halo/console bundle on the collection's release without a doubt - hopefully at an excellent price point.

      • +2

Me too. Though I'm hoping they don't try to push the multiplayer aspect too much (they made a big point of it at the E3 reveal).
And if you were bored by the first one, then it's probably a good thing you didn't play the second one. It was basically exactly the same, right down to the sandbox.

And yeah, true. Especially since it releases in November, coming up to the holiday season. And even if not then, then there'll definitely be one for Halo 5.

  • driveclub isnt enough

it needs to be gt7 too

    forza5… lol

forza horizon 2? its on 360 as well

  • +1

Already bit the bullet on the Xbox One (on release day - blush), but the Halo Collection would have sold me on it anyway. In terms of the PS4… I think it's up to Naughty Dog here. Likely I'll grab the console with Uncharted 4 next year.

    • +1

i'm the exact opposite, the halo collection is the headline act for me, and the likely halobox will makes me a happy xbot for a bit!

    • Bloodborne, Order 1866, and Uncharted have to overperform for me to get a PS4.

Scalebound, Fable, and Crackdown have to over-over-overperform for me to get a bone.

  • +4

Wii U? For $250 or less you get 4 games to begin with.

    • +1

Have one already with a bunch of games, all but Rayman being first party games. I honestly dont know why it hasn't been selling, its actually really good

      • -1

BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE DEM GRAPHICS OR DEM SHOOTIN GAMES.

This is the way of the industry.

Nintendo is leaving their casual market behind; they're going back to their fans from the Gamecube and creating great experiences without gimmicks. AND THE MARKET JUST SPITS IN THEIR FACE.

Conclusion: Don't try. Make the same game every year and don't change a thing.

Of course, if Nintendo just made a Pokemon MMO, they would be able to buy the entire Sol starsystem with the proceeds.

      • +1

I've been waiting to get one. I wanted to wait until there was a good catalogue of games, and now there definitely is. I'm really excited about the new Zelda and Star Fox.

  • The next installment of the God of War or Uncharted series will warrant the purchase of a PS4.

    • -2

Ugh, goodness, they didn't announce a new God Of War game did they? Didn't Kratos already explode all of existance?

      • +2

Frankie are you forgetting the milking machine at Nintendo lol? C'mon mate you can't crab Sony if they did drop another God Of War (which they didn't BTW)

Anyway join the OzB Mario Kart tourney and prepare to get whooped.

        • At least Nintendo doesn't go "OKAY, we've DEFINITELY finished up this story!" and then keep going lol. And Nintendo's a lot more graceful to their IP's than EA, Activision, and Ubisoft….. Okay, only if you pretend Other M and (potentially) Hyrule Warriors don't exist. (I am already bracing for that one, not being a big fan of Dynasty Warriors)

Fine, whatever, I will play Mariokart, JEEZ! >:(

        • Excuse me Mister Neg-Man, I was joking with the statement at the end D:

      • I don't think a new God of War has been announced.

  • +1

Star Wars Battlefront. I'm sure it is coming out on both consoles. I have a bit of a wait till then.

  • GTA6.

    • So you don't want to buy a next gen console til 2018?

      • I'm happy with my ps3 at the moment. Really only use it as a media player (Netflix & downloaded content) & gta5. do you have a source for the possible release date of 2018?

        • +2

          GTA4 was 2008
          GTA5 was 2013
          2013-2008 = 5
          2013+5 = 2018

          GTA6 2018 Confirmed.

  • Bought the XBOX 1 for my daughter's birthday.
I have really crap ADSL2+ with TPG at the moment - they can't get better than 0.9Mbps…and of course the damn XBOX wants to be connected to the net, and of course there was a 800MB update it wanted immediately which took all night to download…way to kill a birthday surprise.

    • Next year you can get her that Harley you have always wanted.

    • 0.9Mbps = ~100KB/s.

Are you sure you're only getting that? Should be getting 10x the amount (TPG here with 12Mbps).

Good luck with getting it fixed.

  • PlanetSide 2.

Final Fantasy XV. I usually wait until the final fantasy games are released before I purchase the PS4.

This year I've bought the Wii U due to the great sales. Plenty of fun for the family and nieces and nephews.

    • This year I've bought the Wii U due to the great sales

I'm sorry, but I think I read that wrong.

      • +1

Think he means he bought them due to the various sales going on recently for the Wii U. I bought one a couple weekends ago for this very reason, and Mario kart 8.

Back to the thread, I bought a PS4 fairly recently too for watch dogs, destiny, witcher and dragon age.

What will get me on the Xbone? Not sure yet. I don't care for gears of war and think Halo ran out of steam. Titanfall will most likely be multiplatform next time. I'll jump on board when they do their first hardware revision and offer a price cut The current console is too damn big and ugly, and I don't have space for it in my media unit.

    • +1

That'll be one of my main reasons to probably get a PS4 or XB1 (although still slightly leaning towards a PS4). Since it doesn't look like a boring piece of crap (FF13 trilogy) I'll be grabbing it along with MGSV Phantom Pain.

  • DESTINY!
Just not sure whether to get the PS4 white bundle or the xbone bundle..

    • +2

Judging only from the fact that you called it the 'xbone', I'd say get the PS4 one lol.

  • +2

    zelda

    • Yes, Zelda will make me buy a PS4 or an Xbox One, too.

    • Excactly what I came on here to post as well - Zelda 100%

  • I really want an XBONE, especially for the Halo Collection, but Microsoft are beyond greedy and have shown that time and time again.
I'll probably end up with a PS4 though since I have a Vita and there are always some kickin exclusives to be had on the PS platform.

    • The way things are going, devs are secretly pushing the dual-screen technology seen mostly on the Wii-U right now. The Vita can be used like this, and it shows a LOT of opportunity for innovation. Of course, Microsoft is doing their best to hinder this advancement in gaming experience by jamming the market with samey shooters (to be fair, the Xbone's E3 had a pretty wide variety of games)

I was worried that Microsoft has ALREADY gone against 2 of their initial proposals. The Xbone WILL DEFINITELY have DRM, then it didn't. The Xbone WILL NEVER ship without Kinect, and now it is. They just come off as really inconsistant and it's entirely worrying enough to the point to make me buy a ps4 just for the security.

      • DieHard Xbox360 fanboy.
  • that vr thingy sony is making.

    • Who ever implements the best VR at a non excessive price point will likely dominate the future of gaming. I think they all know that too. Which is why we haven't had a first to market yet (dev kits don't count).

My money isn't on Sony. It's still on Oculus even now they are owned by Facebook.

  • Batman Arkham Knight, the only game other than Destiny (even though it is on PS3).

  • When both Kingdom hearts 3 and MGS5 get released.

  • LittleBigPlanet 3
The moment I heard it was announced I said to myself "Yep, November is my deadline for a PS4".

  • +1

    Uncharted 4.

  • Xbox One has all the great Microsoft exclusives, so im going with that and the Wii U, which i already got.

PS4 isn't getting great exclusives anymore like the PS1/2 era. The company doesn't have the money for it, their focusing too much on indies instead of big games, and their focusing on making movie cutscenes with occasional quick time events - masked as games….

Crackdown, Sunset Overdrive, Fable Legends, Ryse (actually cool), Project Spark, Phantom Dust, Halo 5, Halo Collection, Dead Rising 3, Dead Rising 3 DLC Game, Quantum Break, Gears of War 4, so many exclusives that are worthwhile…
Hopefully they make another Alan Wake on Xbox One…

    • What a bunch of crapola. In my opinion (and the majority of console gamers judging by the better sales figures) the PS4 has great
exclusives already and better yet to come. Also loads of new IPs not just rehashed Halo games and flogging dead IPs like Gears of War.

      • Agreed. Microsoft's games dont feel as 'iconic' as Sony's. Cant wait for Last of Us on ps4!!! The best game of last gen (and likely goty 2014 as well) is not on Xbone….
