Steam Credit. Better deal from EB Games or directly through Steam?

So Ozbargainers, what's better value?
Buying steam credit from a brick and mortar, and using ING's 5% off,
or paying direct with Paypal?

Edit: Also, apart from EB Games, do any other stores carry Steam vouchers? I heard that Woolies did.

Staying at home and using your 28 Degrees Mastercard or Citibank Plus Debit Visa (compulsory for Ozbargain membership) to buy direct off Steam, and not having to worry about visiting the shops.

  • So I decided to do the math:
Actual Exchange Rate: 0.94 USD per AUD

$50 Steam gift card - $52.25 at EB Games (using 5% off paywave)
Becomes a conversion of 0.9569 USD per AUD
    $5 via Paypal - $5.53
Rate of 0.9041 USD per AUD
    $5 via Commbank Debit - $5.36
Rate of 0.9328 USD per AUD

    • The problem is you're using actual exchange rate. The rate provided by Mastercard/Visa is substantially different. It takes a lot of effort, but you can find the Mastercard rates on the web. I'm sure Visa is floating around too.

      • Oh no, I was using the rates from Mastercard/Commbank. Calculated straight from my statement. If I had a 28degrees or similar, it would have been the best deal.
