Good deal. The only problem will be 8 GB storage out of which 6.6 GB is available to user.

    • Agreed. An extra $36 for the 16GB version (from OW or similar) would save a lot of hassle down the track.

      • OW? Do you mean OfficeWorks? because I can only see the 8gb there too

        • Sorry about that. I was looking at prices for these a couple of days ago and was comparing Officeworks with Kogan (where the 16GB is $209 + delivery). I didn't realise the OW one was only 8GB.

The 16GB version of the MotoG is not sold in Australia. If you buy the 4G version it has MicroSD slot though to expand the 8GB storage.

        • I have a nexus 4 8gb and you do need more than 8gb, trust me.

      • scratch that….

        • He got negged because the 16GB version is only sold overseas and the only way to buy it is as a grey import, OW only stock 8GB version.

Just bought one of these from Dick Smith couple weeks ago, and the available "usable" space straight out of the box was 4.7gb. Paid $238, this is a damn good price. Phone has zero lag, the lack of storage space is of no concern as 4.7gb is enough for a couple thousand photos @5mp and 20-30small apps/games.

Obviously people who like to play half decent games with large file sizes wont like the phone, but who buys a phone for gaming?

      • but who buys a phone for gaming?

Many people pay games on their phones - great way to kill time on the bus, meetings, on the loo etc.

        • gaming …… time killers, not the same thing.. well not to me

At least this one has a MicroSD slot too.

Interesting. The Specs on that TGG page say:

      Internal Storage 8GB
      Expandable Storage up to 32GB

Is this an error on their part? Or does the 4G version have somewhere to put a 32GB microSD?

Would be a stonking good buy if it does have a microSD slot. Hell, it's excellent buying at this price even without.

      • I am happy to be shopping online for a dual sim phone… After some research it looks this phone does NOT have microsd slot.

The good news is TGG has - the new Moto E which has 4GB storage and a slot and still a dual sim phone. Pre-order for 1 July.

Moto G 4G has microSD slot. The 3G version does not.

        • +2

          Your post is confusing.
It doesn't have 4Gb storage .. it has 8GB storage. It supports 4G LTE mobile technology.

      • +2

Yep the new model has 4G and SD card support. But that's it. So if you don't need either the original is still great.

        • 4g model also has a gyroscope so you can take photospheres, apparently. Only thing missing is nfc.

        • and ac wifi.

Note the 4G version is single SIM

      • Yes it does have a MicroSD slot. As the description on TGG site says:
"Motorola's most popular phone now with 4G LTE connectivity and MicroSD expandable storage."
Also, if you Google it, it is confirmed around the place.

  • Shame they don't have the 16GB version.

    • The 16GB version of the MotoG is not sold in Australia. If you buy the 4G version it has MicroSD slot though to expand the 8GB storage.

  • shame it doesn't have a MicroSD slot and removable battery.

The times storage was expensive are long gone. So why?
We are buying essentially 'designed for disposal' devices.

  • The 4G devices are only single sim, are they not?

    • Correct

  • Is this phone gonna get cheaper?

I wonder what sort of radio this model has? I have an Atrix - Telstra blue tick and it pulls in a decent signal both from the tower and wifi. Then I bought a Razr M - no blue tick, much faster processing but crap reception for calls and wifi. Anyone here had any hands-on experience with this phone?

16GB worked out to be AU $226 from Amazon when I bought one for Mum a few weeks ago - probably the same now for those interested

  • +1

I purchased a 16GB one for my Mum. AU $212 delivered. It is a grey import (as I believe all 16GBs would be), It was purchased on the 15th, shipped from HK, and arrived at my house on the 23rd (TOLL Priority).

I just bough the 3G 16GB version for my son. He's very happy. I paid $270 to buy it from MobiCity (http://www.mobicity.com.au/motorola-g-dual-16gb.html); the firm didn't live up to its delivery estimates but certainly provided the product in good order.

It's a terrific phone and monumentally good for the money; if someone said I had to give up my HTC One and use it all the time, I'd have no problems. It plays HD streaming media just fine, is very smooth, and has a clean interface that is close to stock Android. And it feels premium - heavish, but premium.

One point to note is that while the 3G Moto G lacks SD expansion, it supports USB on-the-go (OTG), so you can plug plenty of USB storage into it via a cheap little cable or specialised USB stick or SD card reader such as the Meenova (until Google supports OTG better, you'll also need Nexus Media Importer or similar software, which is $4 on Google Play).

Shame about the lack of SD slot. Handy to have if you use your android phone as an external hard drive. I have my copy of Windows 7, along with drivers, apps and steam game backups and such on my HTC Desire HD with 32GB. Great portabilty and functionality in the one device. Is the Motorola an upgrade in terms of hardware, despite its storage limitations?

  • +1

Excellent little phone - very happy with mine. I don't use my phone for storage so I find ~6Gb of space is plenty.

Very speedy and no lag noticed so far. IMO screen and battery life are great!

  • So the 4G model gives you the micro Sd card slot but takes away the dual sim? What on earth is Motorola or Google thinking.

    • -1

haven't seen any 4G dual sim phones available on the market yet.

    • yea that's right. Don't understand why 201.98 for 8GB is a good deal.

      • lol, did half the people here just discover the internet?

those are grey imports with no warranty & sub par travel adaptors.

$201 from an authorised Oz reseller is a good price to anyone who actually intends to buy the phone.

  • I just used "SAVE15" to save $15 on this. See http://www.dicksmith.com.au/spend-and-save-promotion

  • DSE have this back at $249 this morning

8GB on TGG site today at $199 - local stock, local warranty, bricks and mortar store.
Won't find the 16GB in there as it's not released in Oz
TGG site doesn't indicate for how long this price will last

    • Buy from TGG eBay store this sunday with the 20% off sale, and you'll get it at $192 delivered. Thats of course if it stays at its current price of $239 delivered

      • Too bad they don't have the 4G LTE ver. up on their eBay store for $300 (as its currently preorder for release 1/7). If it was the 20% off would bring it down to $240.

  • Got it from officeworks yesterday for $189 after pricematching Good Guys.
Outstanding phone, especially since my last phone was a an Xperia Sola. And ridiculous value for money.

    • How did you get OW to price match it to $189 when TGG is selling it for $239?
