    with Vodafone

    There's always a catch…

    • +64

      Not anymore

📣 Catch.com.au ceased trading and selling products as of 30 April 2025

      https://www.catch.com.au

      • -4

        Coz they had no catch

        • They had to throw it back

      • this one pass (past)

    • I used to be with voda a few years back then moved to Optus and last month I moved back to Voda and I am pleasantly surprised. I actually have better coverage around where I live than I did with Optus. As always, YMMV but I wouldn't be so quick to knock on voda, at least if you're in the Sydney area.

      • Agreed. Thought'd I'd try Vodafone after being off it for about a decade. I'm getting better coverage around my work & home with Vodafone than I did with Telstra (Boost).

Need someone smart to do the math for me because I am too dumb.

    • +35

iPhone 17 Pro (based on $1999 as RRP)

      $90.11/month for the $79 plan (($79x36) + ($1999-$1599)) = $3244/3 = $1081.33/12 = $90.11
$85.67/month for the $69 plan (same logic as above but replace the $79 with $69 and $1599 with $1399)

Edit: not sure why I got negged, unless my calculation was wrong?

        • +2

you used the wrong slash btw

    • +2

For the $69/month plan, assuming you get iPhone 17 base model, then it's basically $30 per month for 36 months for calls. $39/month to pay for the phone.

Early termination is pointless. You need to pay half of the remaining monthly fees + pro-rata part of $1399. Vodafone will happily let you do that (free money for them).

Still too complicated? Basically, you pay $2464 over 36 months.

      • Or you can use some discounted JB cards to get the basic iphone 17 for around $1450 + $200 Yearly Phone Plans x 3 = around $2000 for 3 years.

  • +17

3 years relationship with Vodafone…….. NAH

  • +1

Previously advertised for a 24 months contract. And, unable to add price match cheaper advertised offers.

  • +4

If you go for 2 years: 69x24=1,656-1000=656/2=328/12=27.333 a month. That’s actually really decent if you are a heavy user. You get 150gb of data.

    • Don’t forget to add the cost of the iPhone too

      • +2

I’m talking about just the cost of the plan. If you need an iPhone and are a heavy user makes sense.

  • +7

Clicked through to Vodafone, the 24month @ $69 for $1000 credit is still available

    https://www.vodafone.com.au/mobile/applepromo/

    • +2

That’s a much better deal and you need to stay only 2 years.

    • Not sure if this is still available as apple doesn't list it https://www.apple.com/au/iphone/carrier-offers/

      • +1

you're right, but when you click on "View Plan Details" on your apple link, it diverts back to the above Vodafone apple promo link.

  • Is it actually for an iPhone 16, if so that’s a free phone?

    • +2

iPhone 17 256Gb is $1399, it’s free with this plan

  • +5

FWIW I switched to Vodafone for a version of this deal 2 years ago and could not wait to get off of the network. Actively paying a premium to avoid them with my current provider.

    • +1

Coverage is at least better now (or at least better enough for me) after the cell-sharing agreement with Optus.

      • +1

I don’t know why you’re getting negged. People will happily join Optus over voda when they have the same network now. Their maps literally show the same thing.

It’s subjective too as you did, better enough for you. Mines the same. I have a free Telstra sim and it’s garbage. Wouldn’t catch me paying for it. My voda service works 10x better than Telstra does for 90% of the places I visit in Melbourne

        • +2

They only share the same network in the regional areas, but it’s still the same coverage as before in the metro areas.
It just so happens I am often between the two, so it works out decently for me.

  • +1

Anyone tried talking down the price for the plan as a student

  • +1

please note that vodafone has a $8 porting out fee

    • +2

Convert to prepaid first then port out. No fee charged.

  • +1

I use to like these deals and like many had said before good for those who has work paying for their mobile.

These days all three networks are bad in their own ways and NBN has speed upgrade that makes it almost as fast as LAN, these big data plans are no longer that attractive if you can have your work pay for your NBN.

It work out much cheaper over theee years if you buy the phone before your travel overseas and use discounted Apple gift card. Get a cheap annual plan and you are all set.

    • +3

Problem is NBN is still capped at 100/20 for $75/m in my apartment, so getting a $69 phone plan is a better buy when your speed is MUCH faster than that.

      • Correct if you can get decent speed out of that.

I live off mobile internet for many years when I was living in city then down south where I am 500 meters from a Voda/Optus cell. You also has the advantage of pooling all you lines together and every family member don't have to worry about connecting to WIFI, just mobile data 24/7.

That was no longer the case when I move to inner west over a year ago. I suspect it is a combination of over capacity and insufficient infrastructure. Vodafone is hopeless and Optus is better but still not usable for work. So switch to NBN 25/10 and even at that speed the difference was immediate. Now on 100/40 since last black Friday sale and will look for deals on faster plans this black Friday sale.

  • +5

If you are not a data heavy user, buy your iPhone with discounted gift cards then get a 12 months sim only plan is the best way to go. 36 months contract is the new low of these carrier's offers.

    • +1

yeah I agree. $150-200 nowadays gives you lots of data choose any carrier on special that works well in your area and that's it. grab a phone outright and you're all set. all these contract deals are rip off

  • You could also claim duty if going overseas as its a BYOD plan.

    • FYI with this, it's a discount off the device (not a form of payment), so you can only claim GST on the discounted amount.

  • +1

Voda is by far the worst carrier I have ever used - never again

  • +1

    Amazing deal

    Oh it’s Vodafail

    Hard pass 😆

  • Vodafone has the worst service, and be stuck for 3 years, HELL NO!!!!!!

  • I've been with vodafone a few years now (mostly for their international roaming perk) i've been reasonably happy with their service locally at least in metro areas. Their price gradually has been going up each year though.

  • +1

I could never understand how these "deals" are good.

    36 months of $69 is $2484.

I am currently using Kogan, which is Vodafone network, $200 per year for 500GB per year, using my phone as hotspot, Spotify listening every day, youtube, facebook and so on, have never used more than 150GB for a year + plus at home it is constantly connected to home WIFi.

$200 for 3 years is $600 so the difference is $2484 - $600 = $1884 —> this is the discount you can get compare to going with 3 years contract with Vodafone directly and plus you get ANY phone, not just iPhones.

    • +1

have never used more than 150GB

You answered your own question. You are not a power user. Some people are.

      • Even if they are 150GB/$69 ~ $2.1 per GB, 500GB/$200 = $2.5. This is ~15% difference in price $1884*0.85 = $1601.

This "deal" is $2 different if you do maths as "power user". Is $2 worth signing for 3 years to no price changes or no better deals in the future? I doubt it.

        • if you do maths

If you do the maths correctly, it looks a whole lot better.

          • @freefall101: haha…yeah 15% applied in a wrong spot. sorry for that.

AGREE that if you using 150GB per month there is value. However, if you don't, then there is no value absolutely.

  • Where can you get these heavily discounted JB HiFi gift cards or Apple Card’s as I think outright is the way to go.. Thanks in advance

  • Out of all the (bad) network services available in Australia, Vodafone takes the crown to be the worst.. Telstra being just bad and Optus worse.. rest all are their offsprings..
A good network service is still a dream here..

  • it will piss me off, if i lost this mobile phone or screen broken.
I'll be still paying same money without the phone.
