    Price matching isnt a bargain.

    • But Rebel still has a cheaper price

      • +3

if it had the cheaper price, it wouldn't price match…

      • Rebel current advertised price is $239.99

        http://search.rebelsport.com.au/sport/Asics-Gel-Kayano-20

Getting them at $157.50 at Rebel is a great deal.

        • Just to clear up some confusion about price matching.

As per our price matching guidelines. The OP has followed the procedures correctly by stating the price and link at the store where the bargain is, in this case the Asics Store and then mentioning the price match as Rebel Sport secondly.

You're welcome to pay the higher price out of protest but I for one am thankful for the post.

No, hes right. It is not a bargain. Belongs in forums, but I think this may have reached the threshold before it gets moved.

These are great shoes, I have had both the Gel Kayano 14 and 17, well worth the price (RRP >$200).
Would be tempted to by another pair if I hadn't just purchased some lighter New Balance runners

    • +3

I agree they are great shoes for regular runners but I found the Kayano to be too fragile since the Kayano 13s. Every pair of Kayano I have owned (over 6 pairs) after the 13s have fallen apart in less than a month. Fallen apart = wears out and your big toe pops out from the top, outer side starts to tear, and back heal padding wears away to the point where no heal padding is left. I've switched to the Asics Nimbus instead and found them to be a lot more durable and they last longer.

      • +2

holy crap man, how do you wear your shoes? i have had 2 pairs of kayano 18's for longer then 2 years now and the only part that is falling apart is the heel padding on one pair of the shoes because i was too lazy to use my hands while inserting my feet

        • No different to how I wear my Nimbus. The falling apart only happens to me on Kayano and apparently the Kayanos are the ones I am supposed to be wearing based on Athletes Foot. As mentioned the Nimbus are rock-solid and don't fall apart on me. BTW, I know of 3 other people who have the exact same problem with Kayano falling apart in the exact same spots.

        • +4

Whoa do you understand that they are opposite designed shoes. Kayano's are for when your foot rolls in and it corrects it and nimbus for when you roll out. So if you have a problem the Kayano's are fixing (ie you are rolling in and it stablises it) the nimbus are going to make it way worse.

Sometimes there is an issue with a one off shoe, I would have just taken the shoe back and had asics look at them. I would have a look at the brooks ravenna (I used to have kayano but didnt like the weight)

        • Yes I know the difference between the 2 but The Athlete's Foot computer screen thing always comes out as Kayano being the show I need based on my foot style.

I actually contacted Asics about 3 years ago and they didn't want to hear from me because I buy most of my shoes when I am in the US. Basically Asics don't care for international purchases.

      • I've had complete opposite experiences, I track all of my running data and have done a little over 900k's on two pairs (16 and 18). I try to swap them out before they reach 1000. They still looked ok and felt good even if a bit worn out.

        • I'm just over 8000 km with a pair of Asics and they're still going strong. But walking, which is very kind to them. :)

      • +1

1st pair I ever owned were the 17s - lasted me 3 years.

I then bought a pair of 19s - within a month had the same issues you are talking about.

the 17s were US stock and the 19s were UK stock - wonder if that explains the difference.

        • Glad someone else has the same problem as me.

I don't think it matters where you buy them from as they are all made in China. I think as Asics have tried to shave weight off each new model Kayano they compromised a little on durability. I manage to get around 6 months on my Nimbus and that's running almost 13km, 7 days a week, and on road / footpath with the only wearing out on the sole. The Kayano begin to tear within a month.

  • I bought 2 off a group buy on ebay for $125 but otherwise cheapest I seen is $159.95 on ebay. good shoe. im wearing them now ☺

    • Was so close to buying, but was unsure of the colour - are you happy with the colour?

      • The color is good but I'm selling mine. Wearing free Runs has made me less conformable in those Kayanos. Want em?

        • hahahaha…..size 11??

        • 11.5 actually! Should fit nicely despite the extra 0.5 I'd say because I actually have other shoes at 11 and these actually fit slightly better.

        • 11.5 actually! Should fit nicely despite the extra 0.5 I'd say because I actually have other shoes at 11 and these actually fit slightly better.

    • What size? I'm selling the pair I got if you want them. Size 11.5 they are. $120. I'll even post them.

      • Thanks for the offer abbztract, went and tried these on recently and the 11's were perfect (normally 10.5). Cheers Rocket

  • how long will the promo last?

Price match is not a bargain.

Says the person who has previously listed an iPad mini price match post.

  • only love nimbus….

  • My Aldi Crane runners are rather pretty good and light for $20 when I bought a couple 3months ago. I usually don't spend more than $100 on shoes.

    • +1

Kayanos are specialist shoes for distance runners. They're a bit like high end bicycles. Sure they cost alot more but are lighter, faster for competing in. Also have far more support for feet to minimize injury over long distance training and events. They aren't really aimed at the average consumer with simpler needs.

Thongy - which Rebel store in Sydney did you get this price match from? I presume you went to the one on corner of George and King street?

    • Merrylands, Strockland Malll.

  • Hmm… $157 is almost tempting enough to add the red model to my collection of the Kayano 20s.
If only the black webbing stuff was yellow, the shoe would look much nicer.

Did u pick up the green ones for $125 off eBay?

      • The dark green ones? I don't really like them.

I do have the fluorescent yellow/green & blue NYC model, however. Easily my favourite.

        • Yeah the dark green (Hulk) ones. I didn't like the colour either but so temping for the price. I was in New York last month and picked up the same NY Marathon 20's. Also agree. my favourite (and not many people have them)

        • I'd be lying if I said I didn't notice all the looks, when I wear mine. lol
          Also get many comments.

It's a real shame Asics don't have more models like the NYC. Most of the male Kayano 20 are a boring black, grey or white base colour.

Just recently got the 3290. Prior to getting them, I wasn't sure if they were a authentic or a knock-off getting around, as there didn't seem to be many places selling them. But for bright orange, I was willing to take the risk.
In order to get them in my size, I had to use a parcel forwarder. It was worth it, though.

Honestly, I'm still not sure. I've only wore them for a day, but they seem to be the real deal. If they're not, they're a very good fake.

        • Just googled the NYC model, love them - good choice ;)

  • Any receipt OP or did anyone else get the deal on these? Interested in getting them tomorrow or day after but I don't wanna waste my time if they want proof of the deal.

  • If anyone in Perth wants to swap some BRAND NEW (TAGS ON) 12.5 US ASICS Gel Kayano 20 GREEN (the colour I have) for either black or red 12.5US. PM me :)

Otherwise I might just sell them. Maybe I'll put this in the forum.

  • Tried in Brisbane Rebel, the guy was happy to go down to $175 but not the full discount. Nice staff. Didnt have my colour shoe, ah well.

  • so I checked these out! The sale is only on winter stock (e.g the black/gold), which are special colours in only one width size (D I think). I'm a width 2E, and these are the white ones which are the original price $250.

If rebel are matching against the white ones, I would like to know. If this is your size then they are great shoes.

  • why is this a bargain, wasn't this $125 few days ago on ebay group buy??

    • That was one colour, limited sizing etc. I couldnt find my size (13 US) otherwise I would have purchased there.

  • Rebel's price matching policy seems a bit elusive…

  • +1

    Hi All,
I am in VIC, Rebel didn't want to match the price since there's no where for them to check this price except the picture. Can anyone post the link for any proof of purchase? Thanks.
