Gumtree.com.au being blocked - Harmful Site?

Is anyone else suddently experiencing problems accessing gumtree? I cannot figure out how to ignore these messages about how harmful it is, fair call their is scammers etc but the site in general… Screenshot of the pop-up

Seems accessing gumtree.com.au the domain is fine, but try and view an ad and the block will start.

Was working about 2 hours ago just fine.

Edit: Cleared cookies, history, all data. Still blocking it.

i can access it fine on mac using chrome!

  • How are you trying to access it? From a link in an email or bookmark etc?

Edit, I'm getting that message now too from a Google search on PC using Mozilla. Weird!

  • Can access the homepage, but when I'm trying to view a listing it gets blocked.

      Same thing here :(

    • Same here. My guess is that one of the banner ads comes from a dodgy site.

banner ads? okay maybe you guys need to use adblock.

        • Same here!

        • Same thing, with adblock enabled.

        • If you think about it a bit, you'll realise nothing at your end will make a difference on what Google decides about the offending ad, your browser will still receive a warning from Google's sensors, which don't have an ad filter.

  • Hmmm, tried getting there from duckduckgo and got a similar malware message.

Yeah j1mmy your right. The website is accessible, as soon as you view an ad the block starts. You cannot override it, I've been searching :(

  • Likewise. I can still click 'Advanced'>'Proceed at your own risk' to go there but it gets a tad annoying.

Edit: I can still view ads though.

  • Same thing in Firefox!

  • Getting it here in Chrome as well. Weird.

  • "This site may harm your computer." now appears in Google results for Gumtree.

  • This is weird. Only internet explorer proceeds without warning.

Only internet explorer proceeds without warning.

You have to commend Internet Explorer for its bravery then — going boldly where no other browser has gone before. Even spelunking into the pits of Malware Hell.

(Before I start another browser flamewar, this is intended to be a joke).

      • Never thought I'd see "spelunking" in an Ozbargain comment unless Meritline had a deal on headlamp globes.

  • We had this message when trying to access our own site a few months back, but after we notified Google, it was fixed within 30mins. Not sure why the message was there in the first place.

this is from the Gumtree facebook page

Our team is aware of the security messages popping up while browsing Gumtree. We're working to resolve this issue; thanks for your patience in the meantime!

  • I couldn't find any info on this weird blocking a few hours ago but trusty Ozbargainers on the case! Thanks for the update, glad I'm not the only one experiencing this! I'll try again tomorrow - hopefully it'll be resolved soon.

    • Yesum… Thanks !!!

  • I've got mixed feelings about the warnings getting removed. Some malware will cost you thousands, but most don't cost you thousands and get you stabbed too.

On both counts, commonsense will often help you avoid dangers, but ultimately these browser alerts are to help the less prudent/perceptive.

    • Those malware warnings also protect people who for one reason or another who have unpatched browser vulnerabilities. There have been vulnerabilities that did not require following a link to trigger.

  • It was happening on taste.com.au last night as well.

i was getting malware warnings 28/6/2014 for adds on gumtree as well when the warning came onto my screen i just clicked on advanced user then it stops giving warnings. gumtree.com.au is a malware safe site you can check on microsoft security.

  • you can also get the WOT extension on Google chrome i find it very useful as it gives you a warning if you are about to enter a bad site. in my own opinion it is an excellent extension.

  • I just checked and it is working fine for me. No warnings at all and I can view ads. I am using Firefox. Looks like they have fixed the issue

  • Can't get in to Gumtree from work site as of today…

  • Opera Win7 is all good.

  • Must be by users reporting that gumtree.com.au is not safe to their anti virus so finally listed as not safe?
