Swype keyboard for Android tablet

I could find Swype Keyboard in Play Store on my PC and mobile phone. However I couldn't find it in Play Store on my android tablet. Has anyone installed Swype Keyboard on his/her Android tablet? Where did you find it for the installation. Thanks in advance.

  • Go to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nuance.swy…

    Click Install and then choose Install to "NAME OF DEVICE". If the tablet is not compatible, google Play will not allow you to install it and you won't be able to look for it on the tablet either — it gets censored out.

    • Thanks scrimshaw, as always.

      Update: I tried the link provided but with no luck as the Device list only shows my mobile phone and the other two were dimmed and I couldn't select any for the installation.

  • Why not install Google keyboard? Does a pretty good job.

    • I am using Swype+Dragon on my Samsung S2 and like it because it supports Chinese handwriting input. Does Google keyboard supports the same? I will do some research to find out. Thanks.

  • Someone's ripped the new Android L keyboard out of the developer preview and converted it into a standalone app.

    Have only been using it for a short while, but it's an improvement on the google keyboard.

  • Weird, it's compatible with my Nexus 7 (2012 edition) so I can install it from the Play Store. So I would've thought it would be compatible with all tablets. Maybe they need to update their compatibility list.
    Try contacting the developer and/or leaving feedback for the app saying that it's not compatible.

    Are your devices rooted?
    If they are then you could try using TitaniumBackup to backup the app on your phone, copy the .apk to your tablet and install it.

    • My tablet is not rooted. It is a China branded tablet running Android 4.2.2.

      • Actually if the tablet isn't rooted that's ok, as long as you can enable installing from unknown sources (normally in the security settings).

        This app says you don't need root access to be able to backup apps.
        You could try backing up Swype on your phone and then send the .apk to your tablet. Then it's just a matter of opening the .apk file on your tablet (as long as you've enabled unknown sources first).

        However, if you're happy using the google keyboard you installed then this may be too much effort.

      • Changing the Build.prop of your chinese tablet will allow you to tweak the 'identity' of the device.

        Root your tablet, then use a build.prop editor found in the Playstore. Change your tablet to something like

        ro.product.model=GT-P3110
        ro.product.brand=samsung
        ro.product.manufacturer=samsung

        This will change your identity to a 7 inch Samsung Galaxy TAb 2, although you can do a Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 build prop if you wish. Google is your friend.

        It doesn't guarantee that all apps will work, sometimes Chinese tabs use processors that are incompatible with certain apps because they lack a certain instruction set, or the tab is not fast enough to run the app.

    Edit: that won't work for paid apps unfortunately…
