    Do you have PAYPASS?

    • +1

      the one in leichhardt does

    • +1

      Yes we accept paypass.

  • Thanks for the deal here rep. My car can only be filled with 98 octane fuel and a lot of independent petrol stations have Premium Unleaded but only at a 95 octane rating. A lot of the time the only way I can find out is by actually driving alongside to the pump. Is the P.Unleaded price ($1.499) you have advertised for 98 octane?

    • looks more like 95.

    • +1

What kind of car can only take 98, I'm keen to know so I never buy one. My last few cars needed 95 premium and it ended up turning me into a diesel convert, 98 would drive me insane.

      • +4

Lots of sports cars and especially the aftermarket are tuned for 98 to make maximum power and efficiency.

They're clearly not aimed at the typical boring throwaway family SUV market

      • +4

Performance and sports cars not your girly cars

        • Wouldnt call my Tiguan "SUV" a performance car but it takes 98 octane

    • jimbo123 commented he bought 98 from them further below

    • I went there last night and it was 98 Octane on the pump. Was 1.499

  • Looks pretty good but too far from the City.

Worst petrol you could put into your car. Your better off just putting sugar in the tank to start with

    • +3

You do realise that Hills purchase from all 3 major importers right? they use whoever happens to be cheapest at the time of ordering. And in newcastle at least they have their own tankers.

  • +1

excuse the ignorance .. is there much difference between the independents vs branded petrol (eg. caltex/bp) ?
Apart from the cost of course… eg. additives etc

    • +3

No difference they just get it from one of the bug guys anyway. And little to no difference between the big guys at that

      • +3

Spot on. Just the marketing really. All petrol comes from the same refineries or direct imports from overseas. I am pretty sure (someone correct me if I am wrong) but there is a law preventing the differentiating of fuel for branding purposes?

Cannot find the law (maybe incorrect assumption) but for more info on how the Australian petroleum Industry works go to the ACCC report (Figure 6.1 is pretty good):
        http://www.accc.gov.au/system/files/Monitoring%20of%20the%20…

Also Australia has minimum standards on fuel quality (generally higher than most countries):
        http://www.environment.gov.au/topics/environment-protection/…

        • +1

Thank you shaiguy for referencing the ACCC report - very interesting.

      • Thats right. For example sydney metro fuel stations get their fuel from the Silverwater terminal. Only difference between the brands are just different additives.

    • 7 Eleven uses Mobil fuel and so does Metro Petroleum.

      • +1

Except that with the exception of Victoria, there is no Mobil fuel, its sold under contract from Shell but that agreement finished last week, now its all being pulled out of BP.

Hill & Co buy from whoever is cheapest at the time, so alot of the time its pulled out of Caltex, but they also pull out of Shell, BP and vopak as well.

i prefer to go to independents rather thant to colesworths, but my inner tightarse often does not let me get past the shop a docket discounts (even though this may only work out to a net 1-2c discount after their mark up)… but this deal would give me the impetus to go independent all the time. now if only padstown wasnt so far away..

  • I always thought the margins were smaller than 10c per litre.

At least it was when I was working as console operator at a petrol station years ago.

    • thats why its a real deal right?

im sure it is promotion more than anything

      • I'm not complaining and it wouldn't be worth the 900km drive for me, but I was more wondering what are the margins the petrol stations makes these days.

I want the independents to continue to operate to keep the big guys honest.

    • +1

Depends on if Dick Smith is running it. 10:59pm, prices go up by 10c, then after 11pm you get a 10c "discount"…

  • +3

I bought Premium unleaded (98 Octane) there for 1.499 just after midnight when coming home one night. I thought they made a mistake on pump pricing !!! 1.499 for 98 Prem Unleaded unheard of !!!!! Good on you guys !!!

    • Best 98 Octane price I got was at Coles Express (Shell) when they had the 22c/l off, only paid $1.469 :)

  • -2

Bonus is you may get mugged!

  • +3

OP, how long does the promotion go for?

  • Geez. I just paid $1.58 on the sunshine coast this arvo. Ripped off

  • I went last night, $1.499 was good for 98 Octane Mobil Fuel.

    • +1

It isnt Mobile fuel just as a FYI, no Mobile importers in NSW.

      • so what is it? there were Mobil logos when i was there

        • +1

Its generally Caltex/BP depending on the area.

Sold under a reciprocal agreement. The only place that gets 'mobil' fuel is in Victoria from Altona (which ceases production in the next 18 months)

  • OP, when does this offer end?

  • +1

Just filled up tonight and asked the attendant when this finishes and he said this is an ongoing offer and it starts at 10PM - 5AM now.

$1.579 is how much i paid.

  • +1

So i filled up with 98 a few weeks ago and found it only gave me 350KM to the tank, thats terrible mileage!! I did only pay $1.499 for it, but it may as well have been E10 from anywhere else with that kind of range.
    (98 $1.499 - 43.05Ltr 12.8L/100KM $19/100KM~)

    Normally with 98 from Caltex i use 9L/100KM $16/100KM

thats a huge difference from just 1 tank change, seems like the fuel from this place is heavily watered down with E10 or something?

Anyhoots, I decided I would give 91 ago from this place, so far it looks like im getting roughly the same mileage as the 98 i filled previously. If the $/km dont come down, im going back to Caltex/BP which was avg $16/100KM
