  • Link says minimum spend $3k….may want to amend your blurb.

    But good pickup!

  • words of warning - card issued by Macquarie Bank

I got the 40k free points with Macquarie last year - took a few weeks to get approved, but went pretty smoothly after it was approved.

      • took a few weeks to get approved

        thats what i'm talking about

I'll be glad to get rid of my Macquarie account for the ANZ cards.

Macquarie have no iPhone App, their website is old and slow.
No options to Auto Direct Debit on the due date (like Amex).
It's like doing banking with the 2000's.

        • Free points are free points. I paid Macquarie $99, sold the Qantas Club vouchers for $90, paid my HECS debt (for the princely sum of 0.42% of the value - then receiving points for all of it) and got 40,000 points for free. Also glad to be rid of them, but it was as a happy fling. :)

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

Sure you can afford to pay your HECs back. You're John Howard's eyebrows.

And 1 more warning.. not targeted at this offer just general advice..

yeah its great getting all these points for just signing up and applying for credit.. even if you are just planing on closing the account once you get the points..

it doesn't look good with the spike of credit checks the credit file is getting between the first week of July.. they can see this on the credit file and the person who access the file during this period.. and what amount you applied for being $1000 or $15,000 etc..

you will get questioned about it in future and will most likely get you declined or a application flagged.. they will probably also ask you to reapply again in 6months time.

Not really, if there's no adverse history they probably wouldn't even bring up the credit file. Even if you applied for a loan next week they would probably assume you were just shopping around.

Worst case scenario they would look at the credit file, ask why you apply for so many credit cards, laugh at your explanation and then ask for you to produce a couple statements to show the history on the cards. If you have huge limits on a number of cards they may require you to reduce the limits or close some of them to improve your debt serviceability.

I have a number of years experience in home loans and have never seen a loan application declined for this reason alone. Obviously can't speak for every bank but this is my experience anyway, don't let the fear mongers get to you!

        • They did for me, mine were all loan applications that i never followed through with trying to get the best deal.. but i do have an ING mortgage and Aussie Home loans mortgage

As far as I know, it used to be as you have said. However recent credit reforms have made it more clear as to what the credit check and add other notes into a credit rating.

So its not as bad as it used to be, where the only thing they see is default listing, enquiries etc.
Before they only see basic info which then leads to the question why so many enquiries it must be because you got declined so many so you shopped around for a bank which will accept you.

Where as now they can do more to a credit rating, they are moving away from this notion. If you don't pay a bill on time, they can mark it in your credit rating as not being on time for repayments.

Also as far as I know, the credit file doesn't contain how much you were wanting to borrow. It doesn't go into that detail. If you want to see your credit file, just apply for a copy of it for free through DnB, you will see that they don't see that much detail when banks also request for it.

Owner enquiries don't get logged in the system.

  • "Annual Fee $69 - if you sell your Qantas Club passes, you'll probably be ahead!"

Geez, who'd pay $35+ for a Qantas Club pass?

  • How is the ANZ one better, this is the one I found: http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/memberSpecials/cards/anz…

The fee is $300, and you get $100 for the year, and 32000 points. Seems to be a lot worse. What am I missing?

  • I've just signed up for the ANZ Deal and got my online approval, mainly for the free 1st year and 50,000 FF points to go towards next years travel plans.
Would it be pushing it to expect to be able to use the complimentary Qantas Club lounge pass when I fly in 2 weeks time?
The ANZ website says the passes will be delivered within 4 weeks of request. Do they send electronic passes to mobiles?

    • That would be pushing it. :)

Just sell em - your meal and drinks in the airport lougne will be cheaper/better. ;)

    • I got the passes in the mail 2 days after I rang and requested them

  • Thanks. The good side is this CC earns 1 point for $1 spending
which is very rare nowadays. If you can make the annual fee waived
for later years then it will be a long-term card but not just
    for that 30000 points.
