External Hard Drive

Looking at replacing my 1TB Seagate Desktop drive as I think it's on the way out. I'd like something that doesn't run off an extra power supply and isn't as bulky as this one. Mine's currently about 5 years old now I think, or close to it. I'm looking at the WD My Passport and Seagate Portable ranges but as I don't think I will really be travelling a lot of the time with it, I'm thinking it might be a waste especially if the drive speeds are lower. I'd appreciate any insights, cheers.

Hard drives are all pretty much the same these days in terms of performance and reliability.

Some people will tell you that they swear by WD or Seagate or Hitachi or Toshiba or whatever, but at the end of the day, all of the four big brands are reliable and you'll be happy with whatever brand you go with.

Sales are common on externals though, if you want to wait around for one.
