Gas usage

So being such a dumbass/lucky person I was last night, I put in some potato bake that was already fully baked back in the oven to the setting "keep warm" setting which is about the 90C mark.

I totally forgot about it and left it on all night for about 12 hours.

I have to thank my lucky stars that the house didnt burn down but was also wondering if the gas bill would skyrocket because of this stupid act I have committed?

well it kept the house warm all night I take it…. same as using a heater all day really.

Your gas bill is not going to skyrocket, its going to go up proportional to the amount of time it was left on.

If your gas bill is $X amount per month, and this includes heating, hot water, oven, stove etc. and you add an extra 12 hours of usage on the oven part, its not gonna triple your whole bill is it.

If the oven is the only appliance in the house that uses gas, well then its another story..

On that setting, you were probably using 10 MJ/h. The most expensive tier of gas I have is 4.2c/MJ. Over the 12 hours it probably cost you in the order of $5 total.

I would like to request a photo of said potato bake.

  • I would not concern myself.
You are looking at roughly 20 to 30 cents per hour.
    So only a few dollars.

  • Thanks to all who responded
