I remember this item being on product recall ? Please check the model numbers on dyson website before buying.

      • i checked its for AM05 ..but the model which is on sale AM051B ..Im pretty sure this one is not on the product recall list

        • +1

This is still the AM05. The code after that is IB (not the number 1) and refers only to the colour. I'd be having my phone at the ready and checking the serial number against those on the Dyson product recall list.

If you are not that into the wine but want a different colour they seem to be $399 everywhere else.

        • @lansalot: Just called Dyson and confirmed the product whichs sold after 1st May 2014 are fine..agree the price is $399 everywhere..

Pretty unbelievable they would call the product "Hot + Cool" when it has no capacity to cool the air. In fact the heat generated to run the unit would always increase the room temperature. Should have called it "Hot + Warm".

    • +4

In theory you are correct, in reality your body does feel cool.

    • +5

technically correct, which is the best kind of correct

worst product invented for its purpose and the price wow… Can't believe people actually bought these.

I agree - had it running at 25 degrees for an hours last might at the end of which it was still 15 degrees in my living room. One of the greatest wastes of my money ever

      • Thanks for the heads up!

      • deleted. i see someone else metnioned true 1900w heating below.

  • We were debating whether free wine was better than $399 less $25 AMEX credit at Bing Lee (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/151106). If we split the payment between two AMEX cards…

you have a net worth of $80M. just loosen your purse strings a little and buy the damn fan.

my thinking: "wait! how did you know? oh…"

  • All colours have the wine voucher, not just the blue.

From Whirlpool "Reverse Cycle Air Con wins hands down. 2550 watts of power to pump out 9000 watts of heat versus the Dyson drawing 1900 watts of power to pump out 1900 watts of heat"

Warning, these still are not very energy efficient for cost.

    • Reverse cycles do cheat by stealing heat from outside, how can anything else compete :P

      • Holy crap. Just found the solution to global warming.

Warning, these still are not very energy efficient for cost.

They are no more or less eficient than any other form of electric heater.

Except for heat pumps (reverse cycle air conditioners) already mentioned, all electric heaters have 100% efficiency.

Put another way, this $600 Dydon heats the room EXACTLY the same amount as any other 1900W electric heater. So, you can get the same result with a $20 special.

Of course the $20 special doesn't scream "I love to show off my disposable income" anywhere near as well as teh Dyson.

    • It is just an electric heater, but a good electric heater. As someone else said, everything other than reverse-cycle is going to be 100% efficient.

I think Dyson's calling card vs cheaper heaters is that it pushes the hot air more evenly around a room compared to most, which is probably true in almost all cases.

I have the older model, AM04, which I believe just has slightly less air throughput for the 'cool' mode. Do I like it? Yes. Is it worth $400? Probably not, but I knew that when I was buying it.
