Telstra Prepaid & GooglePlay with wifi tablet

Hi,

I have just activated a $30 Telstra Long Life credit to use as GooglePlay credit.

However the question is: how can I use the credit for in app purchases on my wifi tablet that is connected to the phone with the Telstra Sim acting as a wifi hotspot??

Thanks in advance!

i don't think you can - or at least I couldn't work out how to…

No, to make Google Play purchases it must be a sim card directly in an android handset/tablet not via Wifi.

  • Thanks,

Furthermore, if the sim is in the android phone but connected to your home wifi, will you still get the option to bill it to the Telstra prepaid account?

    Thanks

You have to be using Telstra 2G/3G/4G data in order to buy apps using your data I believe

      • I buy the app, quickly cancel the pending download and resume the download on WiFi. But you will likely still run into the exorbitant data fees associated with that particular prepaid offer. I believe there is no good way of doing this.

  • I'm using my wifi only nexus 7 to buy from play store. Your phone with credit and your wifi tablet should be under the same google username. Give it a go.

  • My son has loaded he game on both his phone and tablet and was able to confirm that the game Gems follow his login! lucky for him!!!!

That being said, I went to buy US$19.99 purchase and whilst connected to wifi went to proceed with the order, but hit a hurdle. It was more than the A$20 purchase limit.

So now my next question progresses to:
How can I commit this Telstra $30 credit to sit on Google Play as a credit, in the exact same (or similar) way my iTunes balance is sitting there without an expiry date and purchase limitation.

    Thanks again.

    • You can't, the way it is setup is that it "charges" your Telstra account on purchase, I don't think it is possible to charge your Telstra prepaid to "preload" your google login.

  • You can purchase in Google play using Telstra prepaid credit (Wi-Fi or cellular) but only from the device with the Telstra SIM in it! You'll therefore need to be logged in on your devices under the same name to be able to buy the app on your phone and then download it onto your tablet. In regards to in app purchases I'm not sure how that would work but I'm guessing you'll have to do the in app purchase again on the phone, and it will then turn up on the tablet?
