    hmmm i wouldnt chance this

buy that transcend 256gb from msy… at least you can return it to msy

not really enthused about sending it back to kogan and them stuffing me around

at least we are used to msy's own brand of 'stuffing around'

By the time you receive your SSD from Kogan, the new technology in hard drive storage will have been released and on sale (haha, sorry, couldn't resist)

  • +1

Kogan put his name on everything

    • +8

everything that is cheap and poor build quality

  • Why wouldnt you just pop down to a local MSY (unless you dont have a local)

  • +1

world class technical company : KOGAN Group, Aussie proud wow

  • +17

i never really thought i would care what name was inside my pc… but kogan? no.

    • +1

Kogan Inside could have several meanings…

  • +4

Maybe if I had nightly backups to a drive that wasn't kogan branded

  • +2

Not usually a brand snob. But I'm not sure how I'd feel about a Kogan SSD…given that most people usually use their SSDs for their C drives.

Also, as other people have pointed out, you can get similar prices on other more reputable brands.

  • If it is 119, I would go for it, right now few has idea what chipset it runs on, no idea what software it has, intel NAND would be the older gen too lol
    What about firmware updates?
Then, likely no proper trim software unless one run windows 8, and no custom free cloning software.
The likes of adata, transcend, Samsung, intel, all has custom cloning software as well as third party trim support.

Give it a spin if it was under 120 aud as backup drive…
Fingers cross kogan bring in a 500 gb level drive at under 250 aud

Would not buy even it is below $100.

A 250GB Samsung 840 EVO is what, 20 bucks more?

(And beyond its known-good reliability and performance, has 3 years warranty to the Kogan's 1?)

    • +1

      $145 mwave freeshipping

probably add 2% for mandatory paypal (lol mwave)

still better than kogan no name

  • +2

I wouldn't put my data on a Kogan drive.

  • +1

    Pretty poor specs ..

Maximum sequential read rate of 460 Mb/s
Maximum sequential write rate of 320 Mb/s
    Random Read: 70000 IOPS
    Random Write: 60000 IOPS

Sandisk Ultra Plus costs the same… (or a bit less at some retailers).

    http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=sandisk+ssd+256…

I don't know if I'm brave enough to go Kogan over a 'real' one.

This product has no chance to succeed. The only people who are replacing the drives in computers themselves are people who are tech savvy enough to re-install the OS or to reimage the drive. Those people are smart enough to know that Kogan's shady past and dodgy tech history are bad enough to never ever trust one of these drives as a primary drive - and it's a stretch to even imagine using one as a back up drive.

Nice try Ruslan, but there is no way I would ever trust a drive with your name on it.

  • Brain says no.

  • +1

I'd rather trust my data to a 20 year old Quantum Fireball infected with viruses and a scheduled task that randomly zeroes out sectors.

    • +2

      Make it a Bigfoot & you've got yourself a deal! ;)

      • +1

Deal! I still have my 2.5gb one kicking around somewhere. Such a fantastic drive.

  • JMicron JMF667H

It's not as good as Sandisk or Sansung, etc.

  • +4

Guys please save yourselves the headache and avoid this. I can almost guarantee that this will just be as bad as their SD cards. Just dont do it or you will lose data.

The Kogan branded stuff they sell is the same low quality junk from Alibaba. The only difference is Kogan slaps their brand on it to make it more marketable. Ruslan Kogan is great at polishing turds.

  • A mate bought a Galaxy Note Neo from Kogan last week which came with a Kogan brand 2.1Amp USB charger (as the original is a UK version) and even charging overnight only got to 30%. He tried his Wifes Samsung 800mA one it was almost fully charged in a few hours. I wouldn't trust anything with the Kogan name on it.

    'Price seems reasonable".
    This isn't ozReasonable. No deal.

    • This isn't ozReasonable.

      I lol'd! :)

    • ozReasonable: that has to go into the dictionary.

      Right.phuqqin.now.

      Also: Kogan SSD? Playa, please.

OCZ SSDs are bad enough, the idea that Kogan no-brand Hop Sing Chop Sockie dreck gets past the scrutineers is… zero.

      • Funny, despite all of the complaints about OCZ SSDs, I still have two Octanes that are powering along quite nicely… ;)

Why is this a bargain, i recently bought a SanDisk 256GB ultraplus for $124 at MSY, amd Amazon was selling the same SSD for even less.

This post is a joke post, and a very funny thread, thanks for the lauhghs.

    • Crownanchor - I think I bought the same SSD, from the same vendor, at the same price.

Then I went around my various devices and discovered they all had SSDs in them already, except for the NUC attached to my TV (which has an old 500Gb notebook HDD in it, running Ubuntu).

That was a month ago, and I still haven't changed it over. It's sitting in the box.

I am so so so lazy. Thanks for the reminder - will do something on that.

Oh damn… looks like it's gonna wait (fat boy, fat boy, wait) til tomorrow. I just discovered that my wine is finished chillin'.

  • no thanks jeff

As others have pointed out, reputable brands can be had for similar prices. No deal.

  • For the Perthians, you can get a Sandisk Ultra Plus 256GB one from PLE for $149 plus you don't get a slap in the face.
