  • produces practically the same results as deep frying

doubt it's anywhere near as good, otherwise Take Away shops would be using them and saving on oil costs…

    • Have you tried it?

      • +1

        I have one.

It's okay - but it definitely isn't "practically the same results as deep frying".

If you're doing frozen oven chips or frozen crumbed/battered fish then it does a pretty good job. It's more like a quick super heated oven than a deep fryer.

    • there is no commercial air fryer existed at the moment. maybe one day it will.

    • @jv they work very well, but are much too slow for take-away shops to use. It's basically a very small convection oven, so it heats up quicker than a large oven but won't be as fast at cooking as a real deep fryer. A real deep fryer stays hot all day and keeps its temperature, plus hot oil soaks into the food making it heat faster. I did a bit of reasearch into air fryers for a friend's take-away stall, but they were simply too slow to be of any use.

Some things don't cook well in air fryers, but they are mostly things that require lots of oil for the recipe to work. I find most things taste better with less oil, but everybody is different of course.

I make nuggets and chicken schnitzel fresh at home now, and cook them with an air fryer, they taste MUCH better than deep-fried stuff bought from the store. Nuggets and potato chips are MUCH crispier in an air dryer compared to a deep fryer. My wife and I find that if we do buy fish and chips at a take-away, they taste much better after we re-heat them for 5-6 minutes in our air-fryer, as lots of oil is removed and the batter is crispier.

  • Perhaps this takes longer to cook stuff?

  • so far 3 people placed an order after I posted the deal. i guess the price is not bad.

I don't think that's a good way to gauge anything as there's a lot of mindless impulse purchasing by people reading Ozb.

      • Actually, there are a few people here who are prepared to purchase this but just waiting for a good price.

  • i got this but i feel its bit slow to fry chips.. but again i dont have other brand to compare

  • +5

    I have this air fryer.

I have fried various things in it

Aldi French fries. - It cooked these uneavenly, i think it is due to the fact they are too thin (12 minutes)
Aldi Thick Fries - It cooked these good, Very happy with the result (time 15 minutes)
Aldi Calamari - It cooked this very good. (Time 12 minutes)
Aldi Spring Rolls - It cooked these good (time 12 minutes)
Aldi Dim sims - It cooked these average (time 15 minutes)

It doesnt compare to fish and chip shop frying however is passes.

Inside the fryer there is a heat element and wind blowing it through.

I must say cleaning the air fryer is very easy and quick

It is quicker then using an oven.

Overall I say yes get one if you have the space in your kitchen for it.

    • wow i should shop at aldi more. i bought mine from coles, i feel they are so so.

    • Thanks for the review.

    • I love Aldi but their dimsims are horrible, even deep fried. They are never crispy for some reason.
