its a good deal…only bad part its on the Vodafone network.. i guess they are the cheapest for unlimited on a plan and for city used its fine.

I'm paying $38 a month with Amaysim unlimted everything 5gb per month. They use the optus network.

    • How u get $38 and 5GB? With Amaysim?

      • $39 -50% off first month special promo = $38

        $39x24 months -$19.50 = $38 per month over 24 months.

        http://www.amaysim.com.au/

        • but can only see 4GB/month

        • @khmerunited:

the deal i signed up too is not the deal out now.. phone plans change all the time

        • @vid_ghost:
Amaysim 'Unlimited' has only ever offered a 4GB data allowance.
Also unchanged in other respects, since day 1.

All things may well change when their current contract with Optus ends, however…

Only bad part is Vodafone Network? I beg to differ. Have had no issues for the past 9 months other than one day where the network went down across the country. and just clocked 138mbps on 4g.

      • +6

Contrary to popular belief, not everybody lives in Sydney…for many of us outside a major metro CBD, Voda has been utter rubbish for years.

      • Had a good experience with Vodafone as well when moving back to Sydney CBD and had to stay in a temporary apartment for 3 months. $70 for roughly 34GB on 4G was a super deal. I only averaged around 40 mbps upload and 20mbps download in Hyde Park area though. Now back to adsl2+ and really miss Voda.

        • I work at Knoxfield, Melbourne inner suburb (about 20KM from CBD) and it's reasonable here, though I couldn't get 4G yet. Optus, on the contrary is totally unusable (comparing same: 3G). So, it depends on your area, really.

    • But it does not have international calls

    • Vodafone is 4G, Amaysim is only 3G. Also, Optus isn't that much better over Vodafone nowadays.

  • +1

Still not worth it imo, stucked with vodafone for another 7 months

  • I am on Vodafone network (SA) for some time now. No complaints yet.I guess they got their network fixed. At least the data part of that. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/149529

    • I was with Vodafone for 12 years, never had any problems. Just moved to Boost as where I am going to be working for the next year only has Telstra network coverage (WA, Pilbara region). Had Vodafone 4G for the last few months and it is ridiculously quick.

Vodafone no different to optus ime. I recently tried them for a couple of months on the $15 unlimited deal. I was surprised at how good their coverage is now, I would pretty much only lose reception when I wouldn't be able to get telstra anyways. There's so many deadspot out in the country where you can't get any reception irrespective of telco you use. Though I don't think contracts work out to be a good deal, better off buying outright and just taking advantage of best prepaid deals. :P

    • -5

Mate you are kidding yourself if you think Vodafone (or Optus) come close for coverage in country/rural areas compared to Telstra…

      • +1

I said in my experience and compared Vodafone with Optus… In many rural area's once you're about 20km from a town you will pretty much have no reception with any of the 3 until your within about 20km of the next town. Telstra are for the most part better, but not always, and not always by that much. In fact some places I'd only pick up Optus reception, but yes telstra is generally the better and gives you reception in more places than the other two. Also the roaming agreement that vodafone has with optus has helped improved voda's coverage a bit.

I think many probably tried vodafone a couple of years ago when they were supposedly significantly worse, and have written them off. I would be happy to go back to Lebara when/if they have $29 for 2 months unlimited deal again, their coverage is plenty good enough for me. :)

        • try Lebara in castlemaine vic

        • Yeah mean while I have fond memories of my ex's suburb which was ~100km from Sydney on the Southern Highlands having no Voda service, patchy Optus service but reliable HSPA+ Telstra coverage of 10Mbps+. This town is far from what you would call rural. That meant I had to buy a Telstra prepaid and eventually pushed me across to Telstra for my contracted main phone. I haven't looked back.

Neg all you like lads, but you are all kidding yourselves if you won't acknowledge that Telstra covers a significantly higher portion of Aust. Hell they even took Optus to court recently due to their dubious claims and Optus lost…

Even now lets look at who has the most 4G coverage…

        • Why bring up rural areas? Vodafone biggest issue is dead spots in METRO areas, in Adelaide its terrible. I use to get a missed call notifications 4 hours after someone rang, im never going back to them.

        • In Melbourne Metro (around the south eastern suburb where I live or work), they're better than Optus. I have both.

  • are there any cash back websites offering vodafone cash back on plans….could not find any…was there on cashrewards website couple of weeks ago

    • Qwibble

      • I can't see vodafone cashback on qwibble any longer - used to be there but I think it may have been removed

  • Samsung s5 16gb 4g costs about $600 which means $25 a month over 24 months. $250 DSE card, lets say $10.11 a month (downfall that spend has to be only at DSE).

anyways $70 plan which brings it down to $35 a month with all this.

IMO best is to stick with Telstra Pre-paid $50 which gives you heaps. Best part is their plus packs. so much worth it. and yeah not to forget cheap movie tickets.

    • +1

buy a $2 prepaid sim card and get 12 months of discounted movie tickets :)

      • I don't even have any Telstra accounts. I made an account for home phone and closed the home phone but the account still works for Telstra movies :)

        • Home phone? What is that? lol I have an active phone line for ADSL with no phone plugged in!

  • +1

I think I got it for a really good price. . Happy for the next 24months.

    70 x 24 = $1680
-$250 dse giftcard used by my friend to buy his mac
    2 months free access = -$140
    Sold the S5= -$665
    2nd plan on account gives extra 10% = -$154

    Total $471 for sim-only plan for 2years (~19.60/month)

Happy with my S3 4G phone.

    • Are you sure you got or will get 10% discount for second account and two month free? Any link to 10% second plan discount?

      • I spoke to vodafone rep who confirmed it for me..if you have more than 1 service under 1 account you get 10% off every extra service.

Also the red plan that I signed up for had 2 months free access.. its on their website

    • Did you port a number from another company

    • +1

last time $250 gift card was store only promotion

  • What's to stop people from using the gift card then cancelling the plan, due to poor network?

    • its risky.. "THEY" know if you have full service or not at your home location.

      • But seriously, what would happen. My sister likes the sound of this but my coverage at her house is crap.

  • Is the $250 DS voucher to be used in store or online

  • My understanding is if you mention this offer in a Vodafone store they will give u a $250 credit on your account,

    • I just went to 2 Voda stores in Melb CBD and they both refused to give me $ 250 credit if I port a new number to their network. They said it's a Dick Smith only promo and they can't match the offer. I wish Voda would give me a credit as I don't really need anything from DSE.

  • -6

Aha! They got you! The fine print actually says for "new" customers. So tried this a couple of weeks back and they specify that you have to have come from an alternative network and then transfer to Vodafone in order to get the deal.

No, having finished your contract with Vodafone and then signing up for a "new" 24 month Red contract does not qualify for the $250 voucher. The sales man at Ingle Farm even went as far as suggesting converting my number to a prepaid number to another network and then coming back a few days later and then signing up with Vodafone again but could not guarantee I could port the same number back to Vodafone. It's the fine print I tell you?!

Being too much of an OzBarainer I then sat in my car and proceeded to call another two shops witht he exact same query and was informed the exact same thing. So unless people are getting lucky and resigning AND getting the voucher, this deal is pretty weak on what it truly offers.

    • +1

So if I port my wife's number from Virgin and add it as a 2nd service to my Voda account, would this be qualified under "new customer" definition? Even though I am merely adding a 2nd service to my account, I could argue it's a "new" service because it's a transfer of service from Virgin to Voda.

      • -3

You could try but doubtful. That's where Dick Smith get people. Walk ins them don't know what to do on the spot.

      • Yes that will work

    • why would this be weak? because it doesn't cater for YOU a current customer? world doesn't revolve around YOU. the whole point of this marketing deal is to TEMPT new customers to switch and sign up. your negative is purely out of selfishness.

      • +2

        I diasgree.

Even as a re-signing customer, I am committing the same amount of minimum monthly (and total cost) payments to them as a new one would. Why is a port-in's money more precious than a re-contract customer's money?

      • No, because it's simply a marketing ploy to gain a larger user database. Whether the network is good or not they can say "we have X amount of registered users"

    • Lots of deals are for new customers only. This is not a new tricky concept you have uncovered.

Don't see how this is a valid neg.

  • It needs $500+ gift card at least or free a xbox one or ps4 console.

  • 85oMHz ntwk without the t$ price tag… ready for more -20% rechg vouchers ta, Voda.

    • Or the T$ coverage once you leave the city……

      • (Voda can roam) But the thing with pricey coverage is that it's pricey everywhere.

  • Lebara good connection at home in Canning Vale good 'ole WA and here whilst on hols in Redlynch Qld. Prepay $5/Mb. Don't make many calls away from work so am on Optus prepay for that at 10c/min with 22c flagfall. Texts (if not using wifi) at 10c. Throw in the freebies at times (yatango) or other unlimited bargains that may arise and I'm on a good wicket I believe.

  • How is the Vodafone coverage in Kellyville area. I live close to Old windsor road. Can anyone
share there experience that would be good.

  • +1

Shit. My brother ordered a new plan with Vodaphone over the phone last night. Just lost the $250 gift card, damn.
