good phone + plan deal?

I've just accepted a new job and I only have a few days in which to organize a phone + plan. My previous employer provided this, so I've only been using a shitty temp mobile.

Need local calls, texts, a decent data plan, and some allowance for international calls.

I'd most like to consider iphone or android, and no dodgy service providers. I'm guessing I'm looking at $100 / month, so something like $80 would be good.

Im pretty sure that any provider can give you what you want for $80 a month, pending how much data etc you need. Have you done any research at all or just expecting the OZB community to do the leg work? Plenty of plan comparing website out there also.

    • hey mate, i'm not looking for someone to do the research. the reality is i have very little time to figure it out, so was hoping to hear from anyone that may have just gone through the process.

You are approaching the market with the wrong intent.

You don't want to just spend $80 a month, you want to find a plan & phone for the cheapest price that meets all your needs.

You have not specified your needs (data, number of calls, text, international calls, etc) so it will be hard for anyone to give you a specific recommendation.

To generalise - Ozbargain style - source the phone yourself outright, heaps of deals on this site.

    Some cheap options
Amaysim will give you unlimited everything+ 4GB data for $39.

Optus will give you unlimited calls, text and up to 15GB data (500mb/day) for $60/month ($2/day).

Telstra will give you the coverage, at a premium.

Boost will give you Telstra coverage for only $40 a month, been with them for a while now, and it's perfect, Telstra coverage at a budget price.

      • Thanks. I will probably look at sourcing the phone, and going with Amaysim or Boost. Given the Boost plan is only 2GB data per month, how accommodating is that limit? I don't download much or stream at all on my phone. Just mainly internet browsing.

$70 Vodafone Red Plan which includes 3GB of data, unlimited calls and text, 300 standard international minutes and 2 months free access fees

Also includes a $250 Dick Smith gift if you purchase through Dick Smith.

Includes either a HTC ONE M8 or Samsung Galaxy S5. New iPhone not coming out for a few more months and it will have a high phone repayment.

Plan is really $60 a month as the gift card is worth $250 which is approx $10 a month

  • Amaysim.

  • I'm on the $18 plan with VAYA. I get $650 calls, unlimited sms, 1.5gb data. The service is with Optus.
they also have extra data and international bolt on packs. They disable data once you reach your limit so you don't get stung with massive bills.
they also have larger plans like $57 with unlimited everything and 3gb data.
If your unsure of a phone or don't have the funds to buy one, look at the new Kogan Agora phone to get you by until you work out what you want. It's a very decent phone.

  • What's your opinion on tele choice deals everyone? They use the Telstra network
