Back at uni I bought "international edition" textbooks online for less than half the price the uni bookshop wanted. Same content as local editions but different cover. Saved hundreds on top of my already very generous centrelink textbook allowance.
After my experience at uni, here's my definitive guide to getting access to most books on the cheap:
- Head to ebay/amazon and use the ISBN to match it if you're worried about the edition/author
- Check with lecturers and tutors for people who may know or have editions to sell/lend/give. **Ask your lecturer about older editions and its relevance to the current subject
- I know at least with UTS you can go to the second hand bookshop and pickup some from there
- Use other textbook exchange services to find the right edition
- Facebook groups have uni-specific forums for buying/selling. Post a wanted post there
- Go to the libraries and hire out the book or just read it in reserve
- If you've exhausted all possible avenues, and still need the book, then look into buying new.
Save your money for ramen noodles.
lol when i was in first year uni, i bought about $1600 dollars book, second year about $400, then third and fourth none. and i didn't even open most of them. sad days.
the only one book i used about because we got examed on its information. lol
