Walking shoes for flat feet in Perth

I'm looking for shoes that'd be good for walking 10-25km/day, mostly on pavement/paths/gravel. I have very flat feet and accompanying orthotics.

My research tells me I should get something like the Asics Gel Foundation 8 or New Balance 928, probably in D width.

But I can't find these shoes or ones like them in Perth. I could order them online but I'd prefer not to 'cause I'd like to try them on.

Can anyone recommend a place in Perth that carries this sort of shoe and doesn't charge a small fortune?

  • Athletes Foot has a store in Perth, visit a get them to do the foot scan thing and then they will confirm the type of shoe. You can try some on after that.
You could buy elsewhere, not obliged to buy from them but mention if they will go cheaper.
I am on the gold coast but my wife went into one store here and asked for a cheaper price for asics and they took $20 off (about 10%) so no harm asking.

    • I went down to my local Athelete's Foot and they tried to sell me stuff that wasn't for people with flat feet and convince me that that stuff isn't important. I'd hazzard a guess it's because they didn't stock the right stuff and didn't want to order it in just for a fitting. Or possibly they just don't know, they're just kids and it's not like they get any real training.

I think I'm better off finding a place that stocks footwear appropriate to flat feet.

if im walking a lot i actually wear my hiking shoes. Haven't found anything that comes close to these for long term comfort.

    • How flat are your feet? Mine are flat - without support no part of my arch doesn't just touch the ground but it also carries weight.

Can you get stability/motion control hiking shoes?

maybe go to a podiatrist and have a chat.
Our son has flat feet (maybe not a s flat as yours , and we went to one in a shopping centre and had a little chat over the counter, they said to just buy good orthotic inner soles, either ones that they they sell or go to the chemist. They said don't get ones too firm to start with or you will find it uncomfortable. Chemist was about $30 and they said to try a few on with shoes to see whats best (our son wasn't with us so couldn't) http://www.absolutefootcare.com.au/3d-laser-orthotics
When buying the shoes make sure they are firmer on the inside of the sole (looking from the outside the inside part of the sole is usually darker and firmer than the rest like this http://www.asics.com.au/medias/sys_master/images/products/93…), the remove the innersole and place your chemist ones in.
We saw good inner soles at a sports store too, just as good as the Chemist ones.

    • I have custom molded orthotics with padding already. Thanks though.

  • Try Jimm kidd sports, they're usually cheaper than Athletes foot/ Rebel sports.

  • I have very flat feet and used to use those shoe pads but still got sore feet. In the end I found Nike freerun 2 (some of the new ones aren't for flat / wider feet) were the best.

For work shoes I found steptronic (stocked by David jones) are the most comfortable. I'd recommend giving them a go
