I'm confused… what does this thing actually do?

    • As above^^^
Is this like a range extender, a router, or just wifi usb dongle???

      • +3

        it does everything !!!

        • Think I might hold out for an AC version that does even more!!!

        • Ooh, free viruses too? :D (We do like EVERYTHING!)

    • I got the same email and said 'meh'.

It shares your internet connection, as far as I can tell only useful if you have a PC with a wired connection and no wifi available and no existing wifi card.

Put this item on usb port in computer who have the network, and it will give you a private wireless network, so it is more like a personal hotspot, but require desktop or laptop already with network connection.

    From their website:

    $0.00
    Was: $19.95 You Save: 10%

    Say what?

    • +1

      It's normally 10% more than $0.00…

      • I guess it's normally $5.445 with delivery included then?

Can't see it does anything other than recreate a wifi network that you would already have.

      DOUBLE WIFI!

      Rainbow colours!

      Imagine the speeds!

  • going by the description this is just a usb wifi adapter, the "Broadband Router" part had me puzzled as it would need a sim card slot to re-route the 3G to wifi, which this is not!

    • But it says things like set the phone… So I'm thinking it's more like a network repeater/range extender type thing. Kind of like a phone's hotspot function? Like someone said, I could only see it being useful for a wired network!

      • yes, i read the listing before posting, the part about Set the phone will open in WiFi, select 360-xxxx, enter the password to connect appears to be just how to setup a simple wifi connection on your phone, also i think a wifi extender normally needs more power than a usb port can supply, so an external power adapter may be needed

      • Hmm might be useful on Government networks that don't provide Wifi anywhere, a crappy business that doesn't believe in BYOD or giving out the wifi password (even though they called you in as an IT tech).

        • Similar issue here… Our company's wifi network's passwords have been changed and kept secret. I imagine to stop us from hooking our phones, tablets, etc. up to it!
I once had a spare wifi router of mine plugged into a spare port… but it's a little bit noticble! This could be interesting provided I can install the driver!

        • Be careful with this. In many organisations they will be monitoring the network and connecting an unauthorised device would be considered a breach of company policy with the appropriate sanctions. Secondly your network traffic will be monitored and again lead to breaches of company policy.

        • @mathew42:
The company doesn't really monitor our use, but the IT company that we use (that I used to work for) can/does report back to them! Our network is fairly locked down nowadays with OpenDNS anyway, which is why I haven't been too fussed. Smart phones and tablets are awesome for the stuff they don't want us to see! Although I did have to get them to unblock OzB, as it was listed as an ecommerce/shopping site!!!

        • @mathew42:

Lol I was talking about places I don't work eg the government jobs center

  • Put this item on usb port in computer who have the network, and it will give you a private wireless network, so it is more like a personal hotspot, but require desktop or laptop already with network connection.

  • Have anyone used this? Any good or bad?

  • Cheaper here. $4.58 instead of $4.99.

    • even cheaper here AU$4.05 delivered from T-Mart -this price only for the next 3 hours.
