  • was looking for a dual sim + quad core phone. For $80, that's great price.
But came across HTC One E8 and Huawei Ascend P7 if you want specs to match.

Wishing good luck to anyone who is brave enough to order :D

    • as do i x]

    • Wishing good luck to anyone who is brave enough to order :D

      why?

      • Long delivery times, horrendously Asian customer support, questionable quality on what is a budget Chinese phone; pretty much the usual for ordering from China. My experience has been sub par, 3 months since ordering and I still don't have the phone.

        • Last week I suggested to a co-worker to look at buying a phone from pandawill (also banggood, focalprice, etc) . she bought it, paid for expedited shipping and received it on monday. couldn't be happier.

my experience with buying china droid phones has been great..

both in terms of customer service (I received the phone I paid for) and with the phone (no disappointments)

          YMMV i guess.

Once you've tried a (working correctly) China phone it becomes very hard to justify the prices asked for name brand devices (Sony, Samsung, LG etc). Granted those devices are better, but 300-400% better? I think not.

@altomic: haha, touché. I stand by that comment, I would rather buy 5-6 chines phones than a single 'western' phone for the same price. My results have been mixed, of the 3 chinese devices; 1 had a resolvable software issue (unauthorised app installation) and the other two had hardware issues (camera and WiFi). But I've learnt a lot and had quite a bit of (oft risky) fun with them, something I wouldn't do with a 600$ device.

I should also point out that I have also had issues with local hardware (Acer tablet) which was even worse for product support. Imho, buy local or overseas, both are a gamble but overseas is lower cost higher reward.

          @altomic:

Yes, agreed. Some people have bias about products they've never used.

I've have told 5 people to buy zenfone 5 and they are happy with the phone.

So has mine except for when I ordered from Pandawill. Each time I contacted them they lied to me saying my phone would be shipped out 'tomorrow'. About 2 weeks after I ordered I was told they don't have any stock and I should pick out another phone and PayPal them the difference in cost.

At that point I wasn't prepared to deal with them anymore so I got a refund and ordered a phone from GeekBuying instead. Ordered on a Friday and it was delivered Monday morning (paid ~$10 extra for express).

        • @kamoi:

From my own experience with pandawill, you'll get faster response with livechat.

Usually, they are quick at responding all my questions. They also do what they have told me almost straight away. No complaint.

        • @fchis: Livechat is how I was in contact with them.

Reading the comments from the past deal it's clear it wasn't just an isolated incident.

        • @kamoi: yeah, your experience sounds disappointing and annoying for you. it looks like you did the only proper thing - cancelled order and went else where.

sellers are sellers. they just want to sell a product to get money. And, as a buyer, I'm not looking for a relationship with the seller. give me the product I want to pay for or I'm out of here.

maybe next time the seller will be able to provide the goods I want.

          exception to the rule- DX

They should pay you $80 to use this crappy phone.

    • +1

      What's the matter with it?

  • -3

4Gb memory is next to useless..

    • +3

More than enough for people who are looking for an $80 phone.

      • -4

I doubt. With possibly some bloatware and the memory split between Programs and data, there might be around 200MB left for installation. Then the rooting issue arises, and probably no custom roms around.

        • +2

There's a 4 GB ROM on the phone, of which 2.73 GB is usable … Thankfully, the Excite 470q is just like the Cherry Mobile Fuze where the micro SD card is already mounted as 'sdcard0' on the system. This means the phone sees the micro SD card as the default write disk and any extraneous data needed by apps will automatically go to your micro SD card — not the phone's actual internal storage. Now the user isn't limited by the phone's internal storage for apps, which has been a common complaint for many users of locally-branded Android phones.

      • not if they want to install a few applications… if they don't it will be OK…

      • My phone is 4GB, gives me 0.98GB for use with currently 270mb free. I have (without modification) the option to change where the applications are installed to (I still install to internal). Unless you are downloading games apps average about 5-10mb in size.

Rooting of MTK phones is very generic in my experience; one tool works for them all.

  • I have an infocus m310 as a spare phone made by Foxconn. Great phone for the money. Its a direct competition of Xiaomi Red rice.

    • Looks like a good phone, specwise it has it where it counts. How longhave you had it and do you have any issues or gripes?

      • The build quality is decent for the price but the firmware still needs improvement (some apps can't be moved to a SD card).
When taking a photo, it lags a little after saving the photo to the gallery.
Overall, a smooth operating user experience and long battery life (can last two days with medium usage without charge)

I am waiting for a more stable Miui ROM (there are already plenty on the websites). For the recrod, I have a purple one which is kinda cool. The black one is on special now for $107USD. I paid $115 USD for mine. They ship it via Singapore post and takes 2-3 weeks to MEL.

I think the 2100mhz only support is the real problem. You're not going to get on any of the decent 3G networks in Australia with that. Otherwise it would be a great budget phone.

    • By decent you mean Telstra?
Cause Both Optus and Vodafone have decent, if not comprehensive, 2100MHz 3G coverage in Capital Cities and Large regional centres.

  • +1

For the money, it looks and reads (from reviews) to be an excellent phone.
Good screen, good CPU/GPU speed, decent RAM, middling camera (good in brightly lit environments, poor in low lit environments) is probably the only letdown.
If you pretty much live solely in the city (you'll still get 2G in regional areas) and use Optus or live in an area with good Vodafone 2100MHz, then this should feature strongly in your considerations.

after buying my MLAIS from them in one of the last bargains, I wont be touching them again, they kept lying in there emails about the phone being there and ready to send out…
