wow, that's pretty bad… my ancient MS/logitech keyboards, have a decent range… last months only need to change the batteries with rechargeable a couple times a year…and rechargeable aren't really built for slow draining long purpose devices.
This keyboard is also backlit though..

This is (my opinion) the best keyboard for PS3 and PS4. Backlit and switchable between multiple devices is great. Has been cheaper on sale before (eg https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/118434), but this is a pretty sweet deal too.
