DOA laptop from USA

Hi,

I bought a laptop from a US based company (HIDevolution), and it arrived DOA (in particular, the GPU was faulty). They've confirmed it.

I've been speaking the the company, and they have only agreed to cover half the shipping.

I insisted that, as it was DOA, they should cover shipping both ways, but they are refusing. If they were an Aussie company, I'd mention the ACCC, but I guess I can't. Shipping is around $60-100.

  • What is the cheapest shipping method to the USA? (Speed not important, they've agreed to send me the new unit now if I pay for another, and they'll refund me when my one arrives).

  • I paid with PayPal- do I have a potential dispute/resolution I could resolve?

I would dispute it, good received don't match the description.
I would also then buy local, = easier to sort out potential warranty issues.

  • 1st i would make absolutely sure the gpu is indeed faulty

  • ye i've found that most companies share the same attitude of 'ok, we agree its DOA but you have to send the part back at your own cost, and we'll send out a brand new one under warranty.'

  • Does the brand have a travellers warranty clause?

  • That's the risk you take when ordering from overseas/on-line.

I'm sure it's still worth the hassles that sometimes occur.

Paypal won't help you. They can only refund the item, but you still have to pay shipping.

Even if they were an Australian company, the ACCC can't make them pay for shipping.

Just pay for it and move on.

  • This is simply one of the risks of buying from overseas. When I buy products from OS, I never have expected them to cover postage from Aust as that's unreasonable. They need to only comply with their laws not ours. Trying to make them pay for shipping to Aust will only stop them from selling products here.
