I'm actually posting this from my new Z1 I got yesterday on this plan. Have been with virgin for 6 years now and was upgrade time. Great phone. Actually, amazing phone. Insanely powerful and fast, and waterproof to boot. Comes in handy when your last phone died because your 2 year old decided it wanted a swim in a glass of water.

    • Bought mine last weekend. I did it in store and the girl said "$40 plan?" as soon as I mentioned the Z1 so I assume its pretty commonly used.

The Z2 was a minor update, Z3 is looking similar, same camera, similar hardware, there's no other phone for a similar price. And I use international calls. No brained, especially considering what people pay for a Z2 on contract.

Not really that great a deal imo.

Z1 is $350-400 and is dropping fast with the Z3 set to be revealed next month.

This means you're paying ~$25.40/month from the plan. If you weren't dead set on needing V2V calls. Vaya $18/month theoretically offers more call inclusions ($650). http://www.vaya.net.au/?option=Mobile&4Gsimonly.

You're also not locked into Vaya unlike Virgin where 24 months later you can say goodbye to resale value with a Z6 already out…

$350 + $432 (Vaya) over 24 months = $782 vs $960 from Virgin and the lock in for an already 12 month old phone.

    YMMV

Well I got a very bad response from vaya, as they are charging me for updating my iphone apps. So theoritically Vaya says that they are very cheap in the market but still they got hidden charges what they called as "International Message", that automatically send from the IPHONE to somewhere in UK, and cost us 0.30 cents everytime when you update your apps.

But, you do have the following things going for you:

      • Australian stock including a full 24 month warranty which you don't get with grey stock. Even outright phones only receive a 12 month warranty.
      • Not having to buy your phone outright
      • Customer service who aren't complete morons. Don't get me wrong, I'm with Vaya and enjoy the cheap bills, but I dread contacting customer service.

Comparing Virgin with Vaya based on price alone is not good. Customer service of Virgin is much better than Vaya. Hidden charges of Vaya and poor customer service are its biggest drawbacks. After suffering 2 months with Vaya, I will be happy to pay extra with Virgin.

    • The data is more important for me than included calls and text -i haven't hit 50% of my $500 in at least a year.
Vaya charge per Mb so the 1.5Gb could turn into 1GB very easily (from what i've read).
So i would need to go with something like 2Gb with Vaya -next closest is 2.5Gb (~2Gb with per Mb) for $29.
      $29*24 =$696
      + $350 =$1046

I would probably go with Virgin BYO $20 plan over Vaya which currently includes 1.2Gb of data.
      $20*24 = $480
      + $350 = $830

Depends what you use it for.

Vaya is also not a good choice if you make that occassional international call which is included in virgins's cap

careful using the '50meg per day average' around $G..looks to not support any data pack.
perhaps strike off multimedia, through no fault of this phone, of course. ($52gb)
